i think in reality we all know the answer ... an exhaust is not an issue ... maps etc are

my R8 went in for warranty repair ... I think the second they started it up and the whole dealerships glass shook, blew everyones ear drums and smashed all their wine glasses, I think they knew it wasnt standard ....

Ha ha, that would've woken the DP. Get any film?!

Even with the RS6 with standard zorst you know when they're done, you can hear it being moved. I did have an issue with setting off car alarms, it was highly amusing.

Haha, you said both ways.
Bit like Pam Andersons poop chute, but that's a different thread!

Audi warranty denied?

Post by Joedesi » Sun Jun 10, 2012 9:15 pm

Thanks for the info guys...turned into quite a debate!

So we've learnt that it really is a grey area and if the worst were to happen one could consider taking Audi to court. I really am in two minds about this.

Perhaps as suggested I could convince my dealer to fit the milltek that would go some way to the exhaust being seen as "approved"...but no solution offers any guarantees. may hold off the remap...the power is fine for the road. I'm not going to be tracking this car.

My 2 biggest fears are possible engine and dsg failures. Everything else if it came to the worst case scenario I could budget to have repaired. But these two would be hideously expensive.

Nice to see some legal folk on this site.

Andy just bought an RS6 with a Miltek fitted from an Audi garage, there is one for sale on the Audi approved website too.

That's an interesting point. Did the dealers in question know this? I don't think it was in the list on Andy's car. Would be interesting to see where the dealers in question stood, ignorant or not.

Blimey, that's a first. They might also know the difference between 2G and 3G MMI!

Mine was never advertised or pointed out by the dealer but they certainly sold it with it fitted. I also took copies of the dealer photos and advert just in case I ever need to prove this point, hopefully that will never be needed. From my point of view, it was mapped as well :D And that would be very hard to prove otherwise!

No, I had so much going on to the wire with finance etc I didn't want any other problems. Not sure if this was the right move or not though but so far all seems good with the car and the dealer. It's going back in next Friday some some minor bits and bobs to be sorted so I might discuss then.

Audi warranty denied?

If Audi are willing to sell a car with a milltek exhaust without saying expressly that it affects the warranty then surely they don't have a case to state that any modification voids the whole warranty.

Keep this ad in case someone has to go to court with them!!

I am thinking of changing my exhaust to a Supersprint on my C6 RS6 and had the same concerns as the OP. It seems in the case during the original 3yr warranty there's no problem if you're just installing a cat-back system that's TUV (or similar) approved etc.

So the issue becomes the Audi-approved Mondial extended warranty. Looking through the Mondial insurance T&Cs https://www.audiextendedwarranty.co.uk/ ... _01_12.pdf it's also pretty clear:
- If it wasn't factory-fitted, it isn't covered
- Exhaust system isn't covered (although catalytic converters are covered for internal failure only)

So pretty straightforward... until we get to section 3.3:
3.3 Extended Comprehensive Warranty and Extended Named Component Warranty Exclusions
This insurance does not cover any injury, failure, loss or damage caused by, arising from or in connection with the following:
...
6.Vehicles modified in any way from the original manufacturer’s specification.
...
8.Damage or failure caused by an excluded component.
So, if they did ever deny a warranty claim based on a cat-back exhaust modification, you need to prove this was not the cause - or connected to - the warranty claim.

I am not an expert but I doubt a cat-back system will change the power output by more than 1-3bhp? That's 0.1-0.5% on an RS6, which I am sure within tolerances that the car has been designed for! (Presumably 95 vs 99 RON petrol alone causes this sort of discrepancy).

Plus I am sure if it got to the Financial Ombudsman Service/Small Claims Court you would be able to find enough experts that will attest this is not enough of a difference to cause your engine or gearbox to blow up.
