Whenever I've done anything like this there are big feck off signs (usually saying "BRAKE!!!")...
(also never be allowed on the track without having a briefing).

Even f1 drivers have a safety briefing.
Sure most are quite dull but saves silly mistakes like this.

The lucky part as I see it isn't so much missing the runway light but turning as he did induced a slide sideways into the grass which could have easily launched the car bit a roll.
