The phone call from the dealers

Post by Madmonkee » Tue Sep 04, 2012 4:44 pm

So it turns out my DRC isn't covered by any type of warranty. The offending shocker was replaced a year ago, then all 4 the year prior. The chap on the phone said as its a replacement of a replacement there is no further warranty on this part... Do you think it's worth an email to customer services? The part has only lasted a year... So am I to expect a replacement of at least one a year or every 10k as it stands?

couldn't hurt - three shocks on the same wheel in two years is pretty poor.
Even if you can't get 100% coverage see if you can some contribution.

Certainly worth a try, don't think I would be too happy if I had paid the bill a year earlier.

surely only lasting one year isn't 'fit for purpose' replaced under warranty or not?

KW (suppliers of the DRC shock absorbers) must be wincing at the warranty claims on these.

You can be sure that Audi pass the charge back to them including their not too friendly labour rates

My own car had all four shock absorbers replaced FOC at 4 years and two months (40,500 miles) under Audi goodwill scheme although I hadn't bought the car from them.

Supplying dealer was as much use as a chocolate teapot on this issue.

Moral is - once they've got your money you're phucked...

Arthur might be able to give us some insight into these coil-overs.
- very good rep.

Not cheap, but then anything that is worthwhile never is?

currently I have given the nod for the dealership to continue with the work, it will take 2 days as they do not stock the part and as the unit is "hazardous" cannot be shipped using the normal over night method, so I am stuck with a crock of crap 2012 A4 136BHP diesel and have fired audi Uk customer services a "fluffy" email about the matter, loosely emphasizing on the replacement of a replacement, replacement in as many years as they keep failing. Furthermore I needed two new front tyres as the outer edge of the passenger front had worn like a Mofo... tires had 3-4mm of tread all over apart from that, related?? I’ll let them decide.

The phone call from the dealers

Apparently not as it was a FOC replacement item of a warranty replacement. I am now covered for two years as I have paid for the replacement. Still I pursue Audi uk to see what the have to say about "fit for purpose" components.

Madmonkee - This is a prime example of certain Audi dealers not having a clue what they're on about. I had 3 of my shocks replaced FOC by Camberley Audi a couple of years back, and it was confirmed to me by Rob Chorley (reknowned service advisor who knows his stuff when it comes to RS4s) that the new shocks were covered by a 2 year warranty as they were new parts.

I didn't pay a penny towards them, but they still had the warranty. I'd suggest what your dealer has told you is not true...unless Audi have moved the goalposts since then.
