2010>2012 differences?

Post by gilford » Thu Aug 23, 2012 4:57 pm

I've been for a test drive in a 2012 black edition today as a lot of people on here say day to day driving is the same performance as the RS4.

To say I'm disappointed is an understatement! Is there any performance differences between 2010 and 2012 models? The touch tronic gear change is nice but the car just felt so underpowered? It had only done 4k miles so is it not worn in?

For a £38k car I have walked away very underwhelmed

Any info appreciated

Cheers

did you put your foot down to the floor ?

also, a trip to MRC would have it doing sub 4 secs to 60

If it had drive select then it needs to be in dynamic (or individual) to really get it flying or on cars without the drive select put the gear selector to sport and floor it - these cars are definitely not underpowered you just need to get used to the way they are set up.

Hell yes! I had a 30 minute test drive on the dual carriageway and on a/b roads. The drive home in the RS4 was so enjoyable and has made me think twice about selling to be honest.

Could it be that the car is so refined it just doesn't "feel" quick? I did test drive a 911 Turbo an hour earlier, could it be that??

£38k is way too steep in my mind, if I were to get one it would be a 2010 for circa £28k, so would the earlier car be slower?

If I remember correct s-tronic is slower than the manual and earlier (pre facelift) are slightly slower than the 2012 models by 0.1s or something.

Mine feels plenty rapid though and I came from an E-92 M3

I've just returned to Audi after a few relationships with BM oil burners. The return has me in an '09 S4 and to be honest, I think it's deceptively quick.
There's a very linear delivery, though it appears to be often untapped with the standard shift pattern of the DSG box. The onset of that delivery is silky smooth, which makes swift progress appear to be effortless, till static landmarks, or terrain changes make it apparent.

There is a definite drop off of power too early in the rev range which I'm sure a remap will address, already spoken with Revo and also MRC ...decisions decisions. My vehicle does has the ADS with steering, suspension, sport diff etc, and I think I'd have been disappointed without these extras as they transform the car in my limited experiecne when your looking to hustle it along. The rear diff in particular really seems to help the car tighten up it's line mid and exiting bends. Are these needed for day to day driving, of course not, however as a used buyer, you have the luxury of being as picky and patient as you see fit - I'd have to say get these items - even the adaptive steering, once you are famialir with it isn't so unpredicatbale as initial exploration of it.

But back to your concern, I don't believe they are slow - then again don't expect it to appear significantly quicker than your RS of course :)

I think most things would feel slow after a 911 Turbo!
