If you have just moved off from a standstill and then floored the accelerator to the floor to avoid being run up the bum by some idiot, what is supposed to happen?
What happened to me was that the car seemed to bog down and even though it was accelerating , it wasnt accelerating with its usual ferocity. It continued to do it in the next 2 gears while i had the acclerator floored.
After the emergency i eased the pedal to the floor and the car accelereted as normal.
Now is this some ecu or throttle by wire idiosyncrasy that i must remember not to do when needing full engine power and acceleration.
Or ???
Cheers

Unfortunately yes it is normal.
As you note, your car is DBW so the ECU can intercept and modify the action of your right foot. There definitely are circumstances where the ECU will make adjustments, but I have yet to discover the details. Certainly the car will respond better to progressive use of the gas pedal rather than pushing it to the floor.
Also, although I have no confirmation, I believe that the S4 can suffer from hesitation due to the DV system. This has happened to me. I have alleviated it somewhat through use of stronger springs, but it has not disappeared altogether.
Anyway, next time it happens to you, immediately lift off and reapply the pressure, but more gently. You should find that it will recover.

Hmm, not sure I follow the logic in this, or have noticed the WOT causing such problems as described.
My explaination for a similar thing is that if you are really brutal in 1st / 2nd and the road condition is not fantastic, then ESP intervenes, limits the power and flashes the warning light at you in an accusing manner.

David,
Maybe your car's different, but the issue is well known about on AudiWorld too.

Very interesting, I think I remember reading about this some time back. Personally I've not experienced this prob with either my previous S4 or my current RS4. With the exception of the traction control's part.
I'd be amazed if Audi/Bosch had designed such a crap feedback system that the ECU takes more than a couple of nano seconds to work out the postion of the throttle and respond accordingly. Or worse still if the motor that opens throtal body flap was so slow to respond!!
I wonder if radio interference is possible - mobile phones?

I would say that this was more ESP-related than the any 3/4 throttle 'feature' discussed on AWhere ... http://forums.audiworld.com/s4/msgs/993185.phtml
I'm not saying do this mod, but from my experience there seems to be some truth in not stamping on the gas pedal, especially on the motorway in a high gear.
Nige.
