What car next?

Post by tartan_rob » Fri Aug 17, 2012 11:45 am

So boys - its been a while since I was on RS246 but I have come back to ask your advice...

For those of you that don't know I have come from a strong Audi background:

'98 S4 ~500bhp
'04 S4 - Stage1
'03 C5 RS6 ~ 570bhp
'06 RS4 saloon ~ stage1
'07 RS4 estate - std

Plus the wifes:

3.2 DSG TT
1.8t Cabrio A4 Quattro
2.5tdi A4 quattro
2.0i A4 DTM
3.0tdi Quattro A5 Cab

I am currently in a '57 V10 Touareg with Stage1 MRC map ~ 1000Nm and 390bhp. I love the 4x4. It is very quick (for what it is), full adjustable air suspension, large inside, huge boot, comfortable and very safe, but its no sportscar. I drove the C6 RS6 Estate when I had my C5 and I was very underwhelmed. It was nice don't get me wrong, but it lacked something and the rear passenger space seemed less than the C5.

So due to numerous stupid electrical glitches (all covered under warranty) with the T'reg I am now thinking about changing - the latest being a £7.5k bill to replace 2 exhaust gas pressure sensors. My options are:

Cayenne turbo S - Fuel consumption, the earlier versions now look dated and the new ones are very expensive
ML63 AMG - as above
Touareg 4.2 - pretty dull
Q7 4.2 - pretty dull
Q7 V12 - very expensive
RR 5.0 SC - thirsty + not sure I could live with it day-in, day-out and the new one is out shortly

or

M5 V10, sh1t gearbox, twitchy back end on damp roads, how I thought it was okay performance wise and then asked the salesman to put it into 500bhp mode. He said it was. Oops
RS6 Saloon or Estate...

Any advice to be offered?
TIA

B8 S4 s-tronic with sport diff and full MRC treatment. Then, rip the electric steering out and put in a custom hydraulic jobbie. Yes, I live in fairyland...

Keep it coming....I'd be keen to hear from anyone that can compare these cars...

The RS4 is too small for me now although a highly modded one would be very nice.

I can't really remember now, it was okay, only had a few miles on it. Jaguar HQ were going to send the car for some VIP track day/launch event and it was the job of my friend to put as many miles as he could on it beforehand. It was the latest facelift version, it didn't leave me wanting one at all. I'd rather have an F10 M5/Merc E63 AMG.
