ECU Upgrades
Has anybody got any comments/stories about upgrades for the new S4. I believe you can get to 400bhp with a Stage 3 AMD?
I believe Scotty2 has the Stage 3 AmD. If you trawl around this section of the forum, you'll see various posts from him.

Tim,
Firstly apologies as I missed this post!
I have the stage 3 and it's pulled 395 on AMDs dyno. The V8 seems to take a number of miles to loosen so at some point this should top the magic 400.
I love it it bits and I love the sound of it.
This is a video someone took of me yesterday going up the Brooklands test hill so you get an idea of the sound. (The hill starts 1in8 and finished 1in4 with a sharp crest which you have to go over gently!)

Looks and sounds great, Scotty. The Millteks really give the V8 character and it doesn't sound at all Max Power IMHO, which only adds to the appeal.
I absolutely agree about the engine taking time to loosen up. I thought mine felt substantially more powerful after about 2 thousand miles but I've done 16k now and it still seems to be improving.

It's the full system : down pipes, cats, tail section etc.
It is the resonated version so if you want it even more in your fac ethen you can go non-res!
As it is I think it's just right. When cruising it's subdued, when pushing on it's very audible.

Mine manual and yes I do have the occasional issue with the shift/clutch but not enough to put me off. I found by doing a throttle body alignment occasionally if makes it better although I don't know why.
The only issue I have is that I currently have a knock sensor fault. Audi have replaced it but the error seems to return when giving it some. It's going into AMD on Monday to see what vcan be found.

Sorry for my ignorance (
) but what's a "throttle body alignment"...???
cheers,
Gareth

Some people have suggested that by leaving the key in the ignition (without kranking) for 30 secs a TBA will be done. I haven't tried it as I have VAG-COM.
TBA is done to recalibrate the fly by wire throttle. Since the car will adapt to your driving style (i.e. if agreesive will give precise throttle response, if pottering around then it will be smooth/lazy response). Doing a TBA resets it to default and starts learning again. Since my Mrs uses it in town every day it gets a bit lazy. Rather than waiting to adapt to me I give it a head start by resetting it by doing a TBA.
This is about all I understand about it but it does seem to work. I did the same regularly on my TT with great results.

Oh yes! "Tried" as in thrashed around in them on the Audi Driving Experience.
I personally prefer manual but I can see the advantage of not having to let go of the wheel to change gear when you've left it to late. Simply tap the paddle once (or twice!!) and use some engine braking as well. It was fun but I still prefer the manual.

I'd agree about normally preferring a manual but it all comes down to the car in question really.
I would reckon the S4 Tiptronic (with Stage III AmD of course
) would be an ideal match and very a junior RS6 basher.
Hence the reason it's one of the options I'm considering as a replacement for my current M3 Coupe (my 4th
