Xenon auto-levelling problems

Post by Richness » Fri Jul 30, 2004 12:06 am

Hi people, I'm hoping you can help me with a problem with my S4 headlights. :)
My left Xenon headlamp is adjusting itself right down low. It used to happen pretty rarely but is becoming more insistent.
It happened both before and after I had the car lowered. That was some time ago.
Seems worse when the car is really laden but that might just be that i notice it then becasue those journeys are often driven at night....
Turning light off and on makes no difference but turning ignition off readjusts them to their correct level. Although it was a pain to have to pull off the otorway to turn the ignition off, that used to sort it.
Now, however, it sorts it out but sometimes for only a few miles then the LHS dipped lowers itself right to a few feet in front of the bonnet! :(
Leveller is not broken because it is able to move up and down....it just seems to have gone mad! Any clues as to diagnosis and possible solution very gratefully received :) Richard Utting

BTW Car is 98 Noggy S4 B5 Saloon.
Chnages over stock are:
lowered with Eibach Prokit springs
K&N element
18" RS4 wheels
Blaupunkt SatNav + chnager + remote. Alpine 5" speakers all-round
Custom Ruby Nappa Leather

I had a similar problem but just visited the Audi "Stealer" who diagnosed and fixed a sticky evelling mechanism. Was not too expensive.

You have one level sensors on the n/s drop links of both the front and rear roll bars, these sometimes play up. As above the "stealer" will check the fault codes and hopefully change the correct sensor........These can play up also if they have been disturbed during the fitting of aftermarket rollbar
