My B8 S4 detail

Post by Nickyboy » Tue Jul 24, 2012 9:33 pm

After receving most of my order from CleanYourCar.co.uk (All Purpose Cleaner was missing) I decided to spend 7 hours of my life detailing the car.

This is what I did.

Wheels with autobrite very cherry wheelcleaner
Shampoo with megs gold class
Rinse
Valetpro tar and glue remover
Rinse
Iron X (used a whole bottle which I think was probably too much)
Rinse
Clay
Rinse
Towel dry
Autosol polish on the exhausts
Carlack 68 NSC including windows, wheels and exhausts
Collinite 476s wax including wheels and exhausts
Tyre dressing
Auto glym vinyl and rubber care on the black bits

Anyway here is the result

I got sent out to get bread so saw it as a good place to get some pics.

I had to re-dress the tyres when I got back. It's autoglym tyre dressing and I agree it's not the best. Just need to use it up to be honest.

Lol, how the hell did you use a whole bottle of Iron X?!? You used somat else for the wheels so presumably just used the Iron X for the body?

Good job though, esp on Ibis

Sidebar: The B8 RS4 could really do with better/more aesthetic touches; they look too alike IMO
Gone: Audi RS4 Avant, Alpina XD3, Smart Brabus, McLaren 12C,

Thanks for your kind words.

Inexperience of iron x I think! I used it on everything. Surprising how much muck came off the body with this stuff. I regularly clean the car and it's only three months old.

An RS4 in Ibis would be the worst colour choice as it would like the S4/s-line A4. B8 RS4 in blue for me otherwise you're probably right about the aesthetics. Saying that I still haven't seen one and expect when I saw it it would look beefier.

Further to the first response regarding tyres. I wiped the dressing on with a microfibre which gave a matt finish. This way it also stops those annoying spots forming on the wheels.

+1

Fingers crossed that the RS has considerably more presence in the flesh than the rest of the B8 line up. That crease along the bottom of the door panels reminds me a little too much of a 1 series...and that's not a good thing.

Good effort on the cleaning front though, Nickyboy.

I hate shiny tyre walls. I like clean (like new) tyres.

Therefore I like what you did

Agree with you on that Scotty. The GT-R owner's manual specifically advises against using tyre dressing.

Looks good Nickyboy. Only 7 hours!?! I've been known to spend whole weekends on mine!

A local lad as well I see! Recognise the Eastville Tesco car-park!

I was looking to buy some IronX for the wheels of my RS6 (brake dust build-up is rediculous!) but opted for the (cheaper) Bilberry Cleaner instead. Would be interested to compare the two.

Well considering I very regularly clean my car and always use a wheel cleaner I still got a lot of dust off my wheels with Iron X. I highly recommend it.

Yes this is Eastville car park, nice open space to get a picture as I was out for some bread.

Don't think iron x is an out and out cleaner so you will still need billbery. I use both, bilbery first then every other week iron x.
