R8 V10 or Ferrari F430 ?
Re: R8 V10 or Ferrari F430 ?
Mate has had a few Ferrari's, the running costs are huge.
10k in one year on a 355
15k for a 512M
Always fancied a 355 though.

Ferrari gets my vote, you've already had an R8 albeit not a V10 but still an R8. Also, this would be your first rear wheel drive car? What happens to the Seat if you get the R8/Ferrari as I understand you bought that as the C6 was too lardy but the other two will be perfect track cars.

SEAT is staying
and the Ferrari in my OP is Approved Used with 1yr warranty, so how can it cost £10k in running costs unless the clutch goes and even then with 14k on the clock you'd be arguing against wear and tear !

Re: R8 V10 or Ferrari F430 ?
I'd heard stories of those 430 clutches only lasting 7k miles. Get yourself on a 'Rarri forum, it'd be interesting to hear how they compare to the Audi crew.D_K wrote:SEAT is staying

Re: R8 V10 or Ferrari F430 ?
355 is last of the bonkers ferraris - iirc the whole fecking engine has to come out for the oil filter to be changed.
The 430 isn't no where near as bad. 10k service intervals and an accessible oil filter.
This 430 is a manual so should be better. The semi auto clutches are a nightmare - owners manual says to shift into neutral very time you stop but most people don't hence big wear.

Re: R8 V10 or Ferrari F430 ?
One of my mates bought a circa £65k 360 from a main agent in Exeter a few years ago.
18 months of ownership and spent 7 months with the dealer waiting on parts for warranty work.
I would own a Ferrari but I would be as a piece of art more than a driving experience.

Re: R8 V10 or Ferrari F430 ?
The 430 is a much better car than the 355/360 in terms of running one.
Service intervals are a sensible 12.5k/12months (compared to 6k on the 360 iirc) and much easier/cheaper to maintain. I think ferrari realised they needed to be more than "just ferrari" when porsche and vag started churning out cars that were every bit as good to drive but usable everyday.
IIRC the 430 has a clutch wear indicator so you can check it before buying (not sure if thats just the f1 gearboxes though)... Manual should be pretty solid.

All my friends who have had Ferraris gave up
If you think Audi dealers are a PITA, try a Ferrari one .. never have parts and everything seems to be hand made by virgins in Italy on a Monday .. One guy had a 612 Scaglietti which he "owned" for 6 months .. it was in the dealer for 4 months of those 6 .. Every time he wound down the drivers window the petrol cap opened .., windows would wind down and stay down for no reason, they replaced the loom twice, the prancing horse badge on his wing was nicked .. took 6 months to get a new one hand made and shaped specific to his wing.. his stories went on and on

Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar
Re: R8 V10 or Ferrari F430 ?
But it's not just the price, it is the running of it. from F430 owners I know, clutch replacement every 5-7k miles, servicing around the same and all not cheap. R8 V10 is far more discreet even with Capristo, more admiring than 'tosser!' looks and genuinely usable everyday and I doubt that much slower than a F430 with your fettled V10 R8 with far cheaper insurance and running costs.
Re: R8 V10 or Ferrari F430 ?
The Ferrari would have a one year warranty, DK won't keep it that long, so it is fine. It won't be his daily driver so if it does break, he won't be stranded, and I'm sure DK isn't worried about running costs owning a V10 two ton RS 6 and considering the Ferrari.
DK - Buy the Ferrari.
