People who start every sentence with the word 'so..'

Post by KernowPete » Tue Jul 31, 2012 12:17 pm

I've noticed there seem to be more and more people starting more or less every sentence with the word 'so' whether it's appropriate or not. Another one of those irritating, horrible, trendy things that seem to be sweeping the country, like saying 'Can I get' instead of asking 'Can I have?'. Drives me mental :x :x

Rant over and feel a bit better now though.....

Yep. And when it starts cropping up amongst BBC journalists like it has recently, you know there's no hope.

Aussie ex swimmers on the BBC Olympic commentator team starting every sentence with "look" .... grips my goat :knob: <beep> sense of humour as well as zero idea of dress sense.

What about people that don't attempt to spell properly? Or put ’.....’ between every other sentence for no good reason? There are plenty of things to get annoyed about, just not enough time.

Yes I agree. I was brought up to speak and write properly and some of the standards we will be setting to our young is awful. I am 26 and I am part of the generation of people who can't write a letter or can't speak properly or write 'lol' or 'luv' amongst countless other things. Not a good example to be setting.

I am fortunate to be a professional engineer and one who spends a lot of time reviewing other peoples work to make wording and grammer correct.

I already teach my 2 year old to speak properly and I think it is a wonderful thing that she makes the effort. She tells off friends of mine for saying 'yeah' and not 'yes' plus telling people off for talking with food in their mouth's.

Looks like you have got me ranting now. I sound like a real old grump!

Amar I hope I haven't offended you by my use of '. . .', I just saw it as I posted this.

He's got plenty of time to get over it or to get annoyed by it. By the way did you mean to put "with food in their mouth's" :)

I like being grumpy its very English.

I think it might be time to drop the literacy examinations as we are all clearly trying far to hard. This is a car enthusiast forum and not a bloody A level English class.

Yes true.

One thing that upsets my writing is this bloody iPhone. I have given up on some posts when it starts trying to correct me to something that I don't want to say.

Of course nobody is perfect but at least make an effort.

I'm just glad that I'm not the only one turning into the full Victor Meldrew and that it's nothing to be ashamed of :)

Totally agree with you, what upsets me the most, is when I start speaking writing like that...."sometimes" lol ;)
