Bucket seat replacement

Post by cherub72 » Mon Jul 23, 2012 3:27 pm

Hi,

After my bucket seats were stolen a few weeks ago I have managed to find a replacement set, not in the right colour but that's phase 2 of the operation.

My question is this, are they just a straight swap out if I'm going from buckets to buckets or will I need to tell the system that it's looking at something new?

Thanks

Did you buy the car from the insurance?

Hi , I'm in the process of sorting it out now. Insurance companies don't buy second hand so they wrote it off. I can get second hand off ebay and most of the bits I need are either out there or not too expensive from Audi.

But won't this be marked as CAT C or D or whatever?

Price selling car for scrap and spares minus buckets - £15,000
Payout to customer £20k so net loss of 5k

Replace and retrim new seats 7k so 7k loss.

More cost effective to bin the car.

Actually, cash from insurance is 20k, cost of buy back is £7k leaving me £13k. Seats off eBay £1700, other bits to fix damage £500
Result - happy

Hell yeah! How is that possible? The insurance company valued it at £7k for sale, wow.

Jeez! That is a good deal. I though it'd be a lot more than that - possibly even borderline close...
Even taking into account the loss of value for it being Cat C/D you're still better off. And I think that if you do come to sell the car and make it clear about why it was cat D I don't actually think you'll lose that much.

I don't get it, if they valued the car at £15k why would they then sell it to you for £7k as that now means they paid out £13k instead of £5k if they had parted the car.

I am however not a accountant!
