Taking RS6 C5 abroad
Re: Taking RS6 C5 abroad
It is possible to have you car confiscated and sold. In theory, this is possible for anything above 50km/h above the speed limit, but is rarely applied except in cases of recidivism.
/EDIT: This wouldn't happen to you if you are not a French national, I don't think. However you could easily spend the night in a cell.

Just got back to the UK from France.
No hitches, just usual paranoia over each noise and over aggressive speed bumps they've put in.
Starting to find the seats unsupportive on these longer drives.

The best seats so far were on my previous 320D. Part-electric, no lumbar support, 1300 miles trip, no problems.drybeer wrote: Starting to find the seats unsupportive on these longer drives.
Fair to say I haven't tested the RS6 Recaros on a long trip yet.

Re: Taking RS6 C5 abroad
I only took the RS6 abroad once....
Took the boat from Harwich to Esbjerg in Denmark, then drove across Denmark, up Sweden and across to the norwegian Lofoten islands in the arctic....where the gearbox decided to go into safe mode, about 1000 miles from home. Luckily, the gearbox can be fixed by turning the engine off and on again.
No problems with the seats, but driving an automatic for hours on end gave me symptoms in my left foot similar to gout. Couldn't walk properly fora couple of days.
You can stick sweden up your arse as far as I'm concerned. I got my door mirrors stolen (about £1100 to replace) then a £200 speeding ticket from the swedish police.

^ LOL @ your username, DRC.
OP - I took my 320D M Sport across Europe and then a few months later took the RS6 to the Nurburgring, breakdown cover was £18 for the three days and was fairly compressive. Just some company I found on Google but the cover was underwritten by a decent insurer, Mondial, I think... The 320D was much more comfortable, the driving position and seats were perfect, the brakes on the RS6 felt out of balance braking from 150ish on the autobahns, was a fun drive though, didn't bother with adjusting the headlights although it's just a simple flick of the switch.

Re: Taking RS6 C5 abroad
Brilliant trip!! I drove Oslo, Goteborg, Stockholm, Lakselv, Nordkapp, and then all the way down the coast to Trondheim and back to Oslo in 1978. Took 3 weeks and was just on 3000 miles. Did it in my Ford Escort RS2000. It was in the days when most of the road north of the Arctic Circle was still basically rolled gravel bound with oil (called oljegris) - great fun in a car designed to be driven sideways!drove across Denmark, up Sweden and across to the norwegian Lofoten islands in the arctic....
I agree re Sweden - though not for the same reasons - all the trip northwards through Sweden and Finland was done at speed as it was just mile after mile of forest (and mosquitos)!
Makes me wonder if perhaps I should repeat the trip in the Beast??

Why Scotland? Out of all the places in the world, Scotland? I'd go somewhere where the sky wasn't all gloomy and grey all the time.

fantastic roads up in scotland
Re: Taking RS6 C5 abroad
Maybe, but the winters can be tough on the roads in the arctic and the RS6 doesn't particularly like poor quality surfaces. It would be awesome if you replace the RS6's wheels with some more suitable for rough roads, but I guess the size of the brake discs won't allow it.Daveperc wrote:Brilliant trip!! There are some real highlights though. The norwegians have recently connected the Lofoten islands together with a bridge and tunnel system, and that section was just spectacular with the RS6.

Re: Taking RS6 C5 abroad
Cause the roads are fantastic and once past Fort William they are lightly trafficed/policed. Just watch for deer at dusk and dawn. As for gloomy skys its not like that the further north you go.Amar wrote:Why Scotland? Out of all the places in the world, Scotland? But I shouldn't say any of this and keep it a secret for those of us who know.
