Pads and Discs Worn Out

Post by jonno1 » Mon Jul 05, 2004 10:57 am

Just had the Audi garage on the phone - £536 for new pads and discs. Does that sound reasonable/expensive? Should I take the opportunity to upgrade instead? Anyone recommend a (non-Porsche) upgrade?

Seems a lot to me.
Disks are £128 each pads are £88.

Changing the lot can't take more than 1hr.

Speak to VAG parts, they'll do you the bits cheaper I'm sure.

Sounds fine, expecially if it includes fitting and VAT! Have you considered upgrading them, as it will cost roughly the same and you will notice an improved pedal feel and less fade (unless they are being carried out under warranty).

Think VAT may be extra but labour is included. Have thought about upgrading but not sure what to. Porsche upgrade beyond my finances and opinions on others seem very varied. Any recommendations?

Do a search, as I have posted several times on my set up - DBA disks and Pagid fast road pads up front, oem disks and pagid pads at the rear.

Thanks will do.

Got the car back (left the brakes for now - good for a few 1000 miles still they say).

Audi stealer quoted me £325 incl VAT for the service and then tried to charge me £350 for it on the basis that "your car had to have more oil than the average car". I explained that I'd told them it was an S4 when I booked it in - "oh yes sir, but different engines can mean different amounts of oil". I pointed out that the Biturbo S4 has one engine and they kindly agreed to charge me the £325 as agreed. Cheeky b#ggers.

Whilst I was there they told me that the rate of theft of chrome door mirrors has gone through the roof and they get 4 or 5 cars a week in to have them replaced. One chap is on his third set and has finally agreed to have the next set the same colour as his car!

if you are interested in the bigger brake upgrade, I recently purchased a Porsche 993TT front kit for my S4 from ECS Tuning via JBR Performance for £1300 delivered..

Had the same phone call last february. :(

I order disc's from Black Diamond The full monty cross drilled vented with the Blue Pagid RS 4 Fast Road pads.

I had to wait a few month's because they had no mouldings for the disc's, they where noted in their cat. but were not yet orderd by anyone.

I'm realy glad 10 times better than stock.

I have orderd the rear ones also same disc's from Black Diamond and pads from pagid.

Since i have a stock engine with original ecu etc. i hope to change my brakes when i buy the ecu and exhaust line from milltek or mtm...

Hope this can help someone.
