how many keys should i have?

Post by Druggie » Thu Jul 15, 2004 1:35 pm

How many keys should my 2000 s4 have. Dealer is giving me only one remote control key fob, one normal key(assume it is the valet key) and the emergency key. I asked him for the second remote key but told me they only were issued with one.
Can anyone comment?

if the dealers try to put one on you. Just pull out the owners manual thats in with the service book and it says four keys in there.

If they don't have the spare key then insist on having your system recoded. Otherwise there maybe someone out there with a key that can unlock your car!

The car definately comes with 4, but at least you have the 2 remotes.

Good point. I was only thinking of the remotes, which can be recoded. However as for the door locks, that's up to you and the dealer...

looks like previous owner had lost the remote key and the dealer recoded the remaining keys to lock out the other lost key. Wouldnt budge on getting me a new remote key claiming he gave me such a great price etc and it cant be helped if the key was lost. Looks like i will have to buy a new remote key.

Has anyone ever lost a key and had to change the door locks. Was it expensive?
Cheers
