S V RS ?

Post by longdog » Fri Jun 22, 2012 5:08 pm

Good article, I love the look of the new RS4 and worried when I took delivery of my S4 that I may "want" one when it was released but surprisingly I don't as I don't think that I'd get any more from it. It looks a bit meaner with the flared arches but apart from that I wouldn't say it has more kerb appeal but the thing that put me off (a little) is the lack of torque and the fact that you seem to need to wring its neck to get the best from it. Obviously running costs do come into it but if money was no object I'd have an E63 AMG estate for my dog wagon and something that doesn't accept kids for my toy!

Now I'd like to see Christ Harris do a S4 v RS4 head to head as I've heard he's a fan of the S4.

in the beginning it was all hype, before anyone had driven one but now reading informed reviews things become clearer. personally i don't think its worth the price difference over the S4 plus I'm not a fan of estates.my previous 3 cars have been mercedes convertibles and i would have bought a C63 instead of my S4 but i wanted AWD.Mercedes new A class AMG will be AWD to challenge the RS3 and if they do a C63 with AWD by the time I'm ready to change {autumn 2013} thats where my money will be going.

I saw a C63 estate a couple of days ago, it looked epic. I was next to him at the lights, just unfortunate we weren't at the front as I would love to have had a small drag with it. The noise from those things is probably the best exhaust noise there is. Think I would have beat him as well as it was pretty wet and he would have had traction issues.

Do Mercedes have a rival to the S4?

the C350 has 306hp the C63 has 457hp both rear wheel drive. in the hope of keeping me as a customer mercedes lent me a C63 for a day the S4 sits in between with 329hp but has better handling and more enjoyable to drive thats why i bought one,but with mercedes now starting to build AMG AWD cars they have moved the goalposts and in my opinion AUDI havnt excelled themselves with the new RS4.

I would love a C63, the noise!! Bit too expensive for me to maintain properly.

the AMG C63 is not tuned to its full potential and audi hasn't really excelled itself with the B8 RS4, both mercedes and bmw are now introducing AWD options to their cars to challenge AUDI. ill bet there will be a M3 AWD and a C 63 AMG AWD in the near future.BRABUS tuned mercs are quite fast http://www.autoblog.com/2011/09/14/brab ... furt-2011/ GAME OVER!

Hang on a minute isnt this an Audi fan forum? Let's not get too carried away with other brands please!

I agree that Audi will have to step up when the other two start making good AWD cars. Note I said good, I don't think they will get it right straight away and will have to play catch up a bit.
