What number is yours?

Post by jeremyc » Tue Mar 16, 2004 10:22 am

Inside my service schedule book is a white sticker with "Porsche xxx" where xxx is a three digit number (there also appears to be a smaller code number on the sticker). I'm assuming this is the Porsche build number (the guys on Audi Links seem to concur).

So, what number is yours? Mine appears to be 012. :D

I'd read about the Porsche sticker elsewhere. Only the Audi sticker in my service book - which is the original. And nothing in the spare wheel bay either - which is the other place where the stickers are supposed to be.

I've got the vehicle identification sticker in the Service manual and the stickers in the spare wheel bay but there's no mention of Porsche on either of them. It seems to say on Audilinks that most RS2 service manuals had this Porsche sticker - I don't think so. AFAIK none of the other 4 RS2 supplied by my dealer had this sticker.

Mmmmm, so is there a way to decode the build number from the VIN I wonder?

Do we know if Audi produced them as standard 80 Avants (on the production line) and then shipped them to Porsche for modification? If so they are unlikely to have sequential VIN/build numbers.

Alternatively, if it was the Porsche team who allocated VIN/build numbers then we might stand a chance of decoding them.

Yes this is what happened the bodyshells were produced at the Audi plant and left just primed - they were then shipped by train to the Porsche plant where the car was finished off by Porsche. This is stated in one of the many magazine articles I have on the RS2.

The chassis number for the rs2 is different to any model or shape of audi 80, so really the last 3/4 digits should show you what build nuber you have.

I think the c relates to the factory where he car was built/assemble , so c should mean stuttgart at the porsche factory ?!? thats my guess

Check out S2 central website. There is an excellent VIN decoder. Agree with above but I think the question related to the additional porsch sticker 012 in the original logbook of some owners.

I wonder of the "Porsche" sticker could be something to do with the locking wheel nuts - there is also another code in the corner of the sticker?
