running noticeably faster on bp97

Post by s4bandit » Tue Jun 12, 2012 12:16 pm

i normally use Vpower 99 but occasionally use BP97 if not near a shell garage

and find that every time i use the BP97 i get a noticeable increase in power :-)

does anyone else find a noticeable increase in power when using bp97 ron instead of Vpower 99 ?

i only use the Vpower as thought it was the 'best to use' but thinking of changing now as car is much quicker on the BP ?

cheers

Yep I have notice this too and i dont think its placebo either. I regularly use BP Ultimate, iv even been thinking about getting the car mapped on it.
Money can't buy you love, but it can buy you a well sorted racecar

Returning from The Ring last year, I called into JDE in Holland who had performed the original remap on my car. I had noticed a slight hesitation on going WOT and they checked it out. Nothing was found so their recommendation was to fill up with BP at the local garage. 10 minutes later after an 'Italian Service' the hesitation had disappeared - go figure???

log your car with each fuel types to see. Would be interesting.

flat road, 3rd gear from 2k-8k, log groups 003, 020

do the same the next week on the other fuel, same road, same direction

During the recent fuel shortages I was forced to use BP97 after my local Shell garages didn't have any VPower for about 6 weeks.

I also thought the car seemed to run better on it, certainly smoother but thought it was just my imagination - now I'm not so sure :?

Why would 97 RON be better than 99 RON?

However, if you look on the BP website it says "97 RON minimum" so maybe the luck of the draw.

I think a lot of tesco and vpower had been mixed or not true 99 ron after the shortages. We had a handful of cars that did not do what we expected so took a long drive to a different station and they were doing what was expected.

not usually in this country - you usually get more <beep> and less power

That's a shame as Swindon has an abundance of BP stations and the two shells are either closed or going through a 16wk refurbishment
Still, there's a Tesco station about 4 miles from my house

On fithgear they once did a test on a chassis dyno to see if there was any difference between 95 and bp97 and shell vmax. I think they used a renault clio where there was no difference in bhp but in a scooby there was a difference of 14bhp with BP97 and about 15bhp with shell Vmax and there was a good increase in torque.

it all depends if your cars ecu runs more timing itself with higher octane fuels. if it runs 0 <beep> on 95 then 97 or 99 ron wont make a huge differnece at all. If it retards nothing on 99, something on 97 and loads on 95 you will see big differences

When i lived in London I used to run BP97 all the time as my local shell was always busy and hardly ever had any 99 at the pumps. Now I'm living in the sticks I have been using Texaco 97 RON and not noticed any difference. Then i started using Tesco 99. What a difference that made over the Texaco 97 (and BP97)!! The car feels like it does on those cold mornings when the inlet temperatures are low, but it feels like that even when the car has warmed up and the ambient temperature is higher.

I got caught on the motorway to London at the weekend and had to fill up with 97RON (can't remember which one) but ther car was noticably sluggish (just like it was before I used Tesco 99). It also hesistated twice when I accelerated. Back onto the Tesco for me (and it is cheaper than the inferior Texaco 97!!!).

Ive been running BP97 for six months - used to use anything I could get. MPG better than before and it pulls like a train above 5200. Its really obvious, and Im sure its not a placebo.

66000 happy miles, still making me laugh out loud on occasions

I'll do a couple of timed 3rd gear 2000-8000 runs on Tesco and then put a couple of tanks of bp through and do the same. In the absence of a dyno, that's probably the best comparison
BP is convenient for me too
