Looks like we might get some opinion soon

Post by Graeme4130 » Mon Jun 11, 2012 1:32 pm

Sorry to cross one website with another, but according to the first line of this B5 RS4 article, PH's Christ Harris is driving the B8 RS4 later this week so we should expect some press opinions fairly soon

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topi ... t+%28B5%29

What's the 'liking it' odds

I sincerely hope they've moved the game on from the RS5 or our future pride and joys are about to get absolutely slated !
Good car or not, the RS5 was not popular in the press and if the B8's dynamically the same, they're going to resent Audi for not addressing he masses

Fingers crossed :)

I'm not so sure, Chris Harris wrote some serious praise of the B7 and ran one himself for 18months.
I think that might be the B8's downfall there though, as that's going to be his stake for comparison against
I sincerely hope Audi have made a worth successor to the B7 and not just an Avant RS5

Clarkson on the other hand, well that's a different story.....

But then again, do people actually watch TG and take their opinion on cars as gospel ? I'm sure proper car people don't, right ?

I certainly don't. I hate top gear but have to watch it to get a glimpse of certain new motors. After the 'review' I turn it off.

Despite what I think about the opinions on the how, I have to admit to generally quite liking it as an 'entertainment' program
The trips are quite funny, clarksville can be quite good to watch (and occasionally laugh at) and the images of the cars can sometimes be amazing
I do, however, cringe quite regularly at the 'factual' bits that they so often get very wrong
Last series started off well and just went steadily downhill though unfortunately :(

I like top gear - as above, it's an entertainment program that happens to be about cars. Treat it as a scripted low brow sit com and all is well.

I also like chris harris - I find his reviews to be interesting and passionate. A very rare combination. Also, he makes it quite clear it's his opinion and thats fine with me.
Some of the videos are classic. The 'ring with the v8 atom and noble m600 oh and not forgetting the pax ride (with no seat or belts) in a macca f1.

I can't even get into top gear as entertainment as it is too scripted and bloody Hammond p*sses me off so much.

Im looking forward to some RS4 reviews however.

Last one I took seriously was their RS4 vs climbers piece.... and I bought one. Not to race climbers obviously.... :sekret:

In context, better than the RS5 as it's more practical and appeal to a wider audience.
But it does look like the latest gen RS5 has been updated with the same drivetrain as the b8 rs4.

I tend to agree with him on all the adjustable crap, a well setup car won't need it and for most you will spend the first week adjusting it constantly until you find a compromise you like and then leave it there 99% of the time

Adds a lot of initial expense and potential big out of warranty bills down the road, 5 yr warranty a must i think

Impressive getting 450 BHP out if the V8 !! Low down torque is similar to a CTR thou

Oh I dunno - I fiddle with physical suspension on other cars all the time.
Granted, most people will just use a very small number of settings.
The problem is that BMW and the GTR mean that Audi at least need to do this. Granted its a shame as the B7 RS4 suspension setup is pretty much perfect for a road car with no adjustability but thats the market now...
