Security for the pride and joy
Security for the pride and joy
After reading a few posts around recently I have become slightly nervous about security and hence am having the police over to give the house a once over and to advise me of what else to do to protect my house, car and family. At the moment it is garaged which is underneath my house with another locked door to the house. It's a new build so the windows all have locks and the door is fairly secure.
I'm just curious what you guys have in terms of security, tracker, house alarm, CCTV etc. Or maybe you say if they're going to get it they're welcome that's what insurance is for.
All thoughts are welcome.

Re: Security for the pride and joy
If its a new build I'm guessing it has the european style locks.

These are incredibly weak - I was shocked.
Just google bumping and snapping.
I ha a new front door fitted an thought I'll try it myself.
Well I didn't have any experience and opened my door in less than 30 seconds with no fuss or noise. Hate to think what a pro could do!
The problem I that there is a weak part in the middle of the barrel - moving the lock 'just so' breaks it an you simply slide it out and open the door.
There are better ones that have a designed weakness elsewhere that means it won't open if snapped. More expensive but worth it.
Best security device? Big fecking dog.

These are the ones I got.
Anti snap and bump - the keys have magnets in them that pull one or more lock pins down rather than the classic spring loaded ones the key pushes up.
Means you can't insert a blank and push all the pins up to turn the lock. This method (bumping) is especially nasty as if done properly you can gain access in uner a minute and leave *no* signs of a forced entry. Insurance you say? no chance of coverage.
Example of bumping

Apparently this is about locks too

I wouldn't worry about it, most of these thugs just knock on the door now. You will always answer, then they will shove a gun in your face and take what they want. Save your money, they are only possessions and can be replaced by insurance, that's what you pay your money for. The more barriers you put up for these people the more twitchy they are when something goes wrong and that's when people get hurt sadly.
I've got CCTV, alarm etc but if they want it they will take it, just look at what happened to Simon Cowell a few months back! Don't try telling me he hasn't got the best security going!

The problem is that with a house like that you rely on staff... And people are always the weakest link in any security system.
We have a perimeter alarm system. Didn't see the point of an alarm that tell you 'somebody is in the house'.
Never had a false alarm due to animals and it works really well. Get a decent enough warning of people approaching the house and hooked into the motion tracking CCTV system. The benefits of owning a couple tech companies
Oh - and big fecking dog.

Unfortunately aids isn't considered to be a killer disease anymore but rather a 'chronic condition'.
