Flying the Audi Flag - Silverstone

NudeNut and I had a most enjoyable day at Silverstone today

OPL via MLR ...

soaking wet ... didnt stop raining til about 4pm, by which point a Evo had smashed itself into a wall !

Image

The RS 6 is an absolute disaster on track in the wet !!!

I nearly lost it twice in my first session as I calibrated my brain to how little grip 2 tonnes had in the soaking rain ... answer = very little !!

So different to Goodwood on Monday where that was dry and the car had LOTS of grip.

but, Hanger Straight ... 140mph, monstered EVERYTHING, ok, except Nige's R8, the GTR and the 458 Race Prep'd ... but everything else !

Image

Jumped in with NudeNut in his R8 V10 and MY GOD ... the difference

what a machine that is ! grip everywhere, same pace as the C6, and the noise to die for !

Image

Image

The thing with the RS 6 was, when it lost grip ... all four wheels lost grip the whole car would loose it

but with the R8, if it lost grip, it was just the rears, so it was totally controlable ...

BEST BIT of the day ... me and Nige were out having our last session and Nige was having a bit of fun ... so we came in, and I jumped in with Nige ...

D R I F T I N G !!!!

Nige did about 5 laps drifting more or less every corner !!! was fecken brilliant.... really showed another side of the R8, totally controllable drifts must have looked absolutely epic .... every other car we passed or let pass were just pissing themselves with laughter !!

Have to say ... great day .... whilst the RS 6 wasnt great on track, of course, I expected that ... but it was still quick ... I was keeping up with a gaggle of E36 M3's so their RWD and my weight cancelled each other out !!

The R8 did steal the show today thou. Fastest car out there, best looking, best sounding AND most entertaining with its drifting ... it drew alot of crowds and comments

LONG LIVE THE KINGS OF AUDI .... R8 V10 and RS 6 V10

Nige ... show us your pics !!!

Ah ha, I forgot to look at the pics, these look good

Not the most enjoyable of days for me I have to say - had a big slide on my last session just in front of some idiot in the foreign red mini - if I hadn't have caught it then he would have probably wiped me out he was so close

Have to say the R8 was awesome in sound and car control and as you say it was the fastest there

Nice to see you both again and look out for my new thread post on monday in the B8 section! :biggrin3:

Ok. There was a blue one that spun in front of me twice..... On the same lap!!! I'd like to say it was the pressure I was putting him under but I don't think so today!

Which wall, pit straight?

At least 20 I would say!

Cheers for the compliments DK and James!

Was a fantastic day, have to say the last three times I've tracked (Snetts/Ring/Today) have been wet and I LOVE IT !! The R8 is astonishingly good, end of. The compliments I received today from a very knowledgeable (GT3RS/GTR/Caterham/Lotus/M3CSL/Many prep'd EVO's and of course a 458 compomotive Brit Car team) crowd were humbling, me, I just put it down to the car but I suppose I have to be there!

On the Michelin PSS's again today, they are superb in all conditions.

And well done the marshals today for being tolerant and using some common sense whilst preserving safety... as DK said only one red flag all day near the end (always the way) and the marshals allowed drifting!! At one time we sat in the car on the inside of Stowe and watched at least 5 cars spin, retake the track under yellows and continue the session, safely! All good fun in the most part!!

And.... no NOISE issue!!  :D

Catch up guys!!...

Managing to drift half of Stowe in front of the spectators and holding off the 458 down Hanger staraight were my highlights!  :thumb:
