Launch

Post by Nickyboy » Fri Jun 01, 2012 10:15 pm

Just passed 1500 miles so decided to try launch control.

Good lord it was amazing fun. This car really is incredibly quick and very composed. I'm not going to use it much again but I recommend you to try it at least once.

It has the instructions in the manual which I was surprised at. Don't know whether it could affect warranty though or ruin the gearbox. Certainly won't help the tyres last!

Took me a few goes to get it right. The first few times I could only rev it to 1k, when it 3k I knew to let go of the brake and bang. Felt like a roller coaster, I got that weird feeling in my stomach.

Going to have to show it off to some friends.

you know when its engaged as when you floor the throttle the car does not move and the revs bounce off the launch limiter ... you can then come off the gas should you choose (foot still on brake) and floor it again and it will still bounce off the limiter ready for you to unleash

if its not engaged, when you press the gas (with left foot on brake) the car will try to move

on the original DSG's (3.2TT) i believe the manual warned about its use, but S-tronic manual has no such warning, so whilst im not saying a dealer wouldnt try it on, your warranty "should" cover it as its a design function as I said

Thanks for the advice DK. Without doubt im going to try and perfect it. Just need to work out what I was doing wrong, my guess it's my timings.

Longdog, it's bloody brilliant. Your body is pinned in your seat with that weird stomach feeling and by the time your stomach settles and you realise what's happening you've reached 70.

This car gets better every week.

After 450 miles I had redlined it once or twice. Then waited another 300 miles then pressed again. After 1200 miles I properly opened it up and after 1500 miles I've used launch control.

I must be doing something wrong as it takes me ages to get it right. Any tips? Is it my timing?

Been doing that sometimes it revs only a little and the car tries to move. A couple of times it doesn't move but the rev limiter does and then I know it's worked.

For anyone that could have been interested to help I will tell you what I was doing wrong.

Follow the steps as normal but make sure you hold the brake on for just over a second before applying accelerator. As DK said one you have it engaged you can let go of the accelerator and re-apply.

I've got a June 2010 S4 Avant and pretty sure there's no launch function. Had a 3.2 TT previously so know how it should work etc and the S4 doesn't do it. Also there's no mention of it in the manual either...
