I don't want to argue with a man who has OWNED both, but the RS is nearly 100hp more, is lighter and does 0-60 quicker? I find it VERY hard to beleive that Paul's S4 has something wrong with it.

I'd maybe agree if at one point it looked as though he would stay with me, but I always see his upset face in the rear view mirror :nodder:

Maybe something to do with the roads in Wales ;)

Remember this whole forum seems like the RS4 worship forum and that they can't be beaten. In their day they were the monsters for straight line and handling but those days are slowly coming to an end as the new models roll out.

The general consensus is that B8 S4 keeps with the B7 RS4 especially at legal speeds.

I'm probably going to get hassled my B7 RS4 owners now.

My comment is only from word of mouth of owners not from personal ownership so don't shout at me too much.

According to parkers the 2012 S4's are about 0.1s quicker to 60. Don't know why this would be.

They can be beaten, a friend of mine has a 911 Turbo which always beats me ;)

I've had a string of quick cars, in the past 4 years alone I've had a CSL, an E60 M5, a 911 C4s and an E92 M3 coupe. The RS4 is the oldest and cheapest of the bunch but is probably the most fun bar the CSL :)

We all defend the cars we own, it's natural, but from experience I CANNOT agree, I prove it time and time again.

Maybe I'll send Paul to Audi to have it looked at ;)

its not got 100bhp more thou has it !

on average a healthy RS 7 puts out 380PS on MRC dyno and they are finding the B8 puts down 350PS - same dyno so dont need to believe the actual figure, but the delta

chuck in more torque of the B8, through in a S-tronic box and BOOM ... AS FAST at legal speeds ... I think past 100 the B7 will pull ahead

My stock TTRS kep ahead of a 572PS R8 V10 to 80mph with help of Laucnh Control, S-Tronic and FWD getting better grip than RWD .... but come 80mph it sailed past me like I was going backwards

When DK has his first B8 S4 we went for a quick spin 4 up, it felt fast to me too.

Usable torque makes the B8 S4 fast - early 2009 S4 are lower than later B8 S4. Stronic saves lots of times on gearchanges - if the S4 rides its torque band to make it fast it can pull on average power RS4s. RS4 Is fast when thashed when it uses its power rather than lower down torque. Tuned, cleaned and ported RS4s will be faster than the plot shown below.

cheers guys, certain got some discussion going....

Regards the new S% - if I were going to be splashing out £45k plus on a new S5 - I'd get a PDK porker.....

Not even sure given the depreciation of the Audi's that I'm comfortable spending the £27.5 kish needed for an S4......

Depreciation seems to be horrific on the Audi's based on previous personal experience whereas I have had 2 911's in the past and lost a fraction of what I lost on the audi's..

B8 S4 vs B7 RS4

Looking at those maps, would I be right in saying no point taking the rs4 over 7200rpm if that's where the max power is at in this case?

Back to the MPG thing. I got 37.1mpg driving from Bristol to London yesterday and 36.2 point to point Bristol to the sticks of Suffolk. Half a tank and 250 miles covered. Il put pics up when I can get to a PC.

I'm impressed, what driving style did you adopt to achieve this feat!

Just kept to the speed limits the whole way. There were a few areas of traffic where I was driving at 60-65. It was a nice relaxing drive.
