Up until about 3 months ago I would have argued with you Dave, then I saw up close and personal a white C6 RS6 Avant. It looked like it dominated anything parked around it. It could still have had more flair but it was definitely a beast with prescence.

Well, if RS6 C6 is 3-4 times the C5, why not get a C5 for £10000, spend another £10000 for new gearbox, suspension, alternator, starter, would still have some change left for unexpected minor failures and then have at least another £10000 left for fuel? Still cheaper than RS6 C6....
Would that be an answer?

erm no

you would still have a 10yr old car, with 10yr old tech, 10yr old interior and most importantly still much much slower

You won't get the extra 250 BHP, MUCH better interior and you will still have the inconvenience of having to be carless and take the time out to drive to a specialist to get the C5 sorted.

Doesn't change the fact that you'd be riding in Ms Wildenstein.

An alternative way of looking at it

erm yes

you would have an iconic German muscle car, with driver appeal in spades , a retro interior and most importantly way fu*king cooler

Really, the moment you said "it could have had more flair" you lost me, you were making excuses. To me that's progressive taste change as you appreciate certain aspects or become familiar. e.g. The B7 RS4 has never really caught me in the looks department, didn't hate it, didn't like it. However, ever since the introduction of the TTS supercharger, I find myself really liking the look more and more, and I'm considering an avant, yet I like the look of that the least but I know the 'loon is too small. In short, I'm making excuses but the car is getting better looking.

When I first saw the C5 RS6 my whole brain just said "yeeeeeah", I hadn't even been in it nor did I know of its abilities. If it had driven like a lemon, I'd still have loved the look. It's the same thing when I saw a B5 RS4 and it happens everytime I see a VW Scirocco, even though I think all of the powerplants available for it are poo.

This perception isn't much different to the way the B8 RS4 has been received on this forum, the looks would've been somewhat more favourable if there were a 4.0T dropped into the spec list. Take the 5.0TT donk out of DK's C6 'loon and pop in a 2.0TDi, how does it look now? Do the same to a C5 RS6, you'll scoff that won't be very quick but you'd be able to say that at least it looks the part. Do you think we'll see many cooking A6 dressed up as RS6 in the near future?

These are all ramblings but my point is, some cars look better due to a sum of their parts, other cars just look good regardless of what's under the sheet metal. To me, the C6 RS6 falls into the former, the C5 RS6 belongs to the latter. It just looks good, even with its many foibles considered. If the C6 RS6 had iffy DRC, a chocolate 'box and Swiss cheese intercoolers, do you think it'd have the following of the C5 RS6 has had? In this case (IMO), the C6 is defined by its drivetrain, tech and up-to-date high-quality interior, ergo, if I could strap the C5 shell onto the C6 chassis, I'd probably consider it... but instead I have to make do parking my time-machine in a frozen hell where pigs fly.
No matter where you go, there you are.

Reminds me of my mum Shop! :) Nice to see the surgery I bought her is wearing well.

Power, tech advancements interior etc no one will argue with its superb and C6 Saloon is marginally better looking but Im not convinced of the Avant at all. It has no presence lacks that individuality of previous RS cars and look well average. In fact they all look a bit dull nowadays....If you want the power and looks then you have to look out of the brand unfortunatley GT -R's and Porsche, Masers. I think the RS brand has had its day and been diluted with over production in every range. Sad times but I hope im convinced otherwise.
