I fear not everyone will like this...

Post by Mr V10 » Fri May 25, 2012 1:02 pm

...but enquiring with MRC over the phone about the best products for my plus, Doug happened to mention 'flames' and 'Milltek downpipes'. I secretly thought this was very cool and ordered said pipes, but tried to hide my excitement, I was mainly ordering them for the extra 20 or so BHP.

Anyway, they were fitted by MRC and then I forgot all about the flaming potential, that was until a friend rang me to say 'your car was shooting flames like  flame thrower'. I had just dropped him home after showing him what the car could do and he demanded I gave it some as I drove off. Yesterday I got to see them for the first time.

Only a short video (4secs) and the flames are right at the start. :FIREdevil:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x4w2pQuzh3M

Don't get me wrong, the car doesn't flame around everywhere. It will only do it when very hot and at the top of the rev range. It is a fairly civilised motor apart from that, with just a V8 grumble at low speeds.

Yo, Amanda. If I drop my car at Grizz's can you give me a lift to Manchester airport? I'll give you fuel money.

Don't think mine does it, i'm same spec as you to. Did you ask for fuel to be injected on overun to do this?

Bilko, I've just asked Doug if it were mapped this way and he said no, but as there are no cats in place, there is nothing to stop the un burnt fuel from spitting out the back. He also advised against mapping for flames, as this way you would get no engine braking which is bad as you still inject fuel on overrun when you are not supposed to inject fuel. The oil temp needs to be hot for it to flame and you will only get it at redline. It isn't something I will be repeating to be honest, hence the short video. I don't like revving the tits off it. The police pulled me after I took this video.

I pull down my window.

'Sorry guys, I just got a bit excited' (thinking they heard about my revving it)
'So that was you screaming down xxxx road chasing the Focus with your Hazards on'?
'Err, no, I've not even been on xxxx road today. I was just revving my engine as I thought there was a problem with my car and my mate here is a mechanic' (bs - we just wanted to see flames).
'Oh okay, well your car isn't coming up on ANPR, can you produce documents to the station'
'Bit of a pain, I don't see why it isn't'
'The DVLA have no record of your car'

I urge them to do some more checks, as cannot be arsed to produce documents so they call someone on their radio and take my license expressing I looked young, anyway, eventually managed to call somewhere and confirm the car was mine and let me go, interesting my car isn't ANPR'able though. Hope it is the same for speed cameras. Good job I didn't blast off as they were behind me with their full beam on (trying to read plate I assume) and I was just about to boot it off bi turbo style.

What a fecking pointless story anyway.
