Replacement Bilstein Strut - PLEASE HELP!!

Post by johnnyc75 » Tue May 22, 2012 10:56 pm

Hi Folks,

I have just been told by my garage that I have a leaking rear strut. I have owned the car for about 1 week and driven it for 3 miles... :boohoo: :boohoo:

According to him, this part is on back-order and will take 4-5 weeks

Does anyone know where I can try to get them quicker or indeed have any for sale??

Or any other suggestions???? I am waiting for Bilstein to get back to me..

Can i drive the car until the part arrives???

Thanks Johnny

You could try calling Bilstein UK. They are generally quite helpful, if a bit useless. The spirit is willing...

What I meant was a part as in rebuild kit or something like that. Was tired and don't think I saw that the title actually stated STRUT.

You should be able to get a strut insert surely? You won't need a whole new strut (this is certainly the case for KW/FK coilovers, many of which use bilstein inserts too)

Actually, scrub my last comment about billies in FK/KW. I believe they have Koni inserts.

You'll need to replace them in pairs just like tyres. Doing just the one will unsettle the car and cause you handling problems.

You might not like this, but that shock is for a lot of Audi / VW cars including an S6, but not an RS6. Looks like its only rated to 250KW (335BHP). Don't think Bilstein made these B6 series shocks for the RS6; only the PSS & PSS9 series stuff :(

Good spot, sweegie. I assumed he had PSS9. Maybe things don't look so bleak for the PSS9s now. :)

Poor Johnny, he thought he was dodging a bullet by buying a car that had had the DRC replaced by billies and now look what happens.

Maybe you should put some FK silverlines on? Inexpensive and good reviews.
