98 Porsche Boxter Tiptronic S - Buying advice?

Post by Mr Footlong » Sun May 13, 2012 9:50 pm

Hi guys

Housemate is looking at a 98 Porsche Boxster Tiptronic S with me tomorrow and sadly he is looking at the bottom of the market models (circa 5k).

I am a tad concerned that he is cheaping out a bit too much. Apart from the iffy engine lining problem and the seal between the gearbox and the engine, are there any other obvious things to look out for that you are aware of? Are they any good? He isn't really a petrolhead at all so bear tht in mind.

Thanks :)

Sorry for the late reply, been avoiding the forums due to workload. Thanks for that but it turns out that one of those hairdresser mobiles costs almost as much to insure as Brutus, truly bonkers. He now wants me to go to look at a 98 SLK with him tomorrow, won't look like a Homosexual couple at all then.........

The near same insurance is because although that car is 5K .. so is a new engine .. or a new gear box .. Porsche parts dont get cheaper for older models .. so many folk buy a cheap Boxster, thinking they have a cheap car .. then something goes wrong and the cost to fix is more than they paid for the car

But to be honest .. dont knock them they are fantastic cars (have had 6 of them) and handling is just superb.. very few other cars I can think of I'd love to blat down a UK country road

SLK's have a reputation for being "tail light" in the wet ..
Ex RS6 C6 Driver, gone but not forgotten.. The best car I have ever owned
