New 2010 S4 Owner

Post by sixspeed » Thu May 10, 2012 1:53 pm

Hi guys,

Quick newbie post here. About to step into S4 ownership, having come from a variety of cars in the past (one previous Audi, a B6 A4 2.5 TDI). The S4 will be a daily driver, replacing a MINI Cooper S of all things. Will sit on the driveway alongside my Z4M Coupe which I use for weekend/track outings.

So I pick up the new car this Saturday. It's a 2010 S4 in Sprint Blue, 6MT, Black/Lunar Silver Super Sport Seats, MMI, HDD Nav, Heated seats, Parking Assist, Bluetooth blah blah. Tbh, I can't remember the entire spec, but it had a lot of what I was after.

Here are a few pics:

Early plans are to just enjoy the car, although I think I'll look to replace the wheels at some point with some 19s to fill the arches a little better. Interested in picking up an intake as well, followed by a cat-back and tune...

Really looking forward to getting it!

Welcome, great choice. I've had mine a week and don't regret it, good to see someone else opting for a different colour interior. Let us know what you think after the weekend.

Welcome - you'll love the new S4. Does it have the Drive Select option with the tricky rear diff and damper control? If so it'll be brilliant, but if not it'll still be superb, as these are really good cars in my view. If you decide to chop the 18's in for 19's then keep an eye on the Classifieds, as a few of us have spare wheels up for grabs. If you're after 19" Audi BBS split rims, then drop me a PM.... :wink:

Same seats and interior as mine too. Nice colour by the way....!

Same interior as me also! I have started a thread with pics of mine if you're interested. I think our exhausts look different.

Thanks for the welcome guys. Will try and stick around here, although this section of the forum does seem rather quiet!

It's a 6MT, and no Sports Diff or Damper/Drive Select. But I wasn't too interested in those options if I'm honest. The diff would perhaps have been nice, but then I don't expect I'll miss it having never driven an S4 with one anyway :P

Will be looking to up the wheel size. Not sure whether to go for Audi OEM wheels, or something aftermarket at the moment. Do like the tri-spokes (RS6-style). ...

What splits do you have?

I think the manual box is great and in fact have fitted a Stratmosphere quick shifter (sear for one of my previous posts). It's really slick now and has reduced the throw by about 45% of something I think. And with a nice allow Heel&Toe pad on the throttle pedal, it's not a proper old-school driving experience and a very rewarding steer. I know the S-Tronic suits the car well and does computerised blips on down shift, but a well executed doube de-clutch and blip by dancing on the pedals is waaay more satisfying in my book. But a 3 hour jam on the M6 might make me change my mind.....!

My car came on the (very expensive) Audi/BBS split rims which although I liked, didn't fit over the big brake kit that I wanted to transfer from my old RS6, so I had no choice but to change them. Here's how it was delivered (5 months old and 6k on the clock);

I found these OEM 5-spokes that I would probably have ordered myself, had my car been spec'd by me;

I bought new tyres too, so these have factory Audi P-Zero's fitted with two @5mm and two @6mm remaining. They're in the way so please PM me if interested.

I had a couple of great drives this last weekend and the car is really starting to gel with me now. Great noise, great handling and so responsive. I think you will love it!

I think it's the black optics that set it off nicely. The new RS4 needs to be very good to better a nicely spec'd S4 I reckon...
