I'm planning on driving around europe for 6 weeks next year. Looking at getting a S4 2.7twin tub avant for the occasion to keep for maybe 6 months or a year.
The ones I've seen are about £14-16K for a 55-70K miler, should I worry about the thing blowing up? I like to push my cars farely hard but I'll be crusing most of the time.
Just wondering if theres any specific things I should look out for when buying one? apart from the usual white in the oil cap, etc.
Anyone had any major trouble at early miles?
Also, can you fold the seats down and sleep in one, if you really had to?
cheers
S4 reliable

I have a '98 S4 Saloon and drove down to the south of Spain last year in it in July. The first stint was 1200miles overnight (Le Havre to Barcelona, via Millau and Montepellier, then down the N9 and into Spain, I recommend it)....what a car...this is what it was designed for...I was over in Europe for three weeks and had no issues at all, apart from having a permanent smile on my face...the european roads are more fun than UK ones. On the way back whilst travelling over the Massif Central we did just over 200 miles in about 1hr 40 mins, the outside air temp was 39deg C and after the 2 hour stint the water temp rose to about 98degC but that is about it.....the car is top and I did the same trip the year before but in my M3 Evo Saloon, I would choose the S4 every time to do that trip. In the saloon the seats go down to, so depending on luggage you can sleep in the car if need be.
Enjoy the run, I wish it was me........
