Tyres?

Post by JampoTT » Sun May 06, 2012 3:38 pm

So I have some sort of P Zero on there at the moment...

I bought the car (its a November 2010 RS6 Avant) in November 2011 with these tyres already on, but some spirited and motorway driving has worn them out.

I'm doing a fair few motorway miles at the moment. Not going to track it, but wondered what was the best option for tyres, and who is doing a good deal at the moment?

Also, anything to be wary of with getting them fitted at home? I usually used Event Mobile (they've done my S4, RRS and R8 previously) but this is the first car I've had with TPM...

Assume you have a 20" Rim?

If so Dunlop and Pirelli make the OEM approve tyres (designated as 'R01'), but in truth any tyre which is 275/35/20 with a 102Y load index will be fine. There is quite a bit of choice out there and the best online retailers in my experience are either camskill or pneus-online.

I have continental sport contact 2s on my set of 20" rims - which I hate (they came with the car) and are noticeably worse than the michelin pilot sport 3s I have on my set of OEM 19" rims, which are absolutely awesome. This is my first set of Michelins and they are a fantastic tyre. I think however Michelin only do a supersport tyre (and not a PS3) in the 20" size needed for the RS6.

Finally, any reputable tyre Shop will be able to deal the the TPMS sensors and valves when changing tyres for you.

Happy hunting.

The mich's are meant to be fantastic. A few guy's in the c5 forum really rate them. Will be a shame if they don't do them in 20's though.
Anyone know if you can get the goodyear assym 2's in 20's? They would be my recommendation as i have them in 19's.
previous- Pug 205 gti, 306 gti, 309 gti Goodwood.
Audi S3, S4 V8 avant.
Porsche Macan Turbo.
Gone but NEVER forgotten - C5 RS6 Misano red avant.

Now - Empty garage

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there!

Goodyear Dunlop deff do not make 275/35/20 in the A2

The closest 20" in the A2 is 295/30 it is however 101y.

I used to tyre test at the ring and would say that the best tyre on the market at moment is the Michy super sports. My RS6 arrives next week and i will swap onto michy's as soon as it arrives and sell the Dunlop's.

Sorry Ollys, I should have been more specific. This size and type is NOT a current production tyre in the Goodyear Dunlop Plants, but there may be some stock still in mainland Europe, it might be a struggle to find them at main outlets in the uk though. Having said that there are a LOT of tyres stuck in wharehouses around Europe at the moment :bash:

I'm running Michilen Pilot Super Sports (MPSS) on mine...slightly noisier than the OEM P-Zeros, but epic grip and more planted and wear much better. Grip wise the MPSS are between PS2s and Cup Sports, but with better wear rate than PS2s.

They have a slightly broader shoulder than P-Zeros which alarmed my fitter to start with but we did a full range check and they wear fine...fill the arches better (if that was possible)!

I got them from Costco during their 20% off last Summer and had them fitted in Oct, so got all 4 for approx £1k. I also have them on my other car and they are excellent on that too.

Can't recommend them enough.
