Possible new owner

Post by andy » Sat Apr 28, 2012 3:16 pm

Hey guys, been lurking for a while now but now I've seen a car I wouldn't mind some advice on. Did the fatal thing of window shopping the other day and I stumbled across this one quite near to me;

http://www.inchcapeaudi.co.uk/vehicles/ ... avant.aspx

I think they have had it on their forecourt for a while now and they seemed quite keen to work the numbers for me but I'm waiting to hear back on final figures. I like most of the spec although it seems to be fairly bog standard for a 2008 C6 RS6, mileage is about the same as my current A4 on the same plate. Shame it doesn't have privacy glass and the alloys are not my fav choice, again same as my current A4. They say the pads have just been replaced and they have just dropped the price by £5K  If they have I would of definitely said it was overpriced before.

What are your thoughts? Any points to knock them down on? Anything I should ask above the normal servicing, warranty stuff?

Cheers,
Andy

Welcome Andy and FON.

It does look overpriced at £40k.
When you have explored their bottom screen price then push them for free servicing, 2 years min (next service will be a spark plug change and can be quite expensive) and a contibution towards the 2nd year warranty. If you are px ing then look for extra on that too. At the end of the day its "cost to change" that matters however they work the numbers out.
Have you been out in one yet ?
Good luck

Thanks for the advice Steve, very much appreciated :D No I haven't ventured out in one yet as I know that will be fatal for my wallet

I have just spoken to them and it seems the problem is my current A4 Avant 2.0T S-Line SE is depreciated faster than the finance payments so I am currently in negative equity  I paid £21K about 2 years ago for it and they are valuing it at £9.5K with a settlement of £13K, not good. I can terminate now with a small cost of £600 or wait another two payments and that will be zero. I know I am trying to change cars early on within my current scheme which is always bad but I was a bit surprised that my current Audi is depreciated so fast :audibash: sign of the times I guess. Knew I should of brought a B8 and not a B7!

So to change now I will be looking at no trade-in and possibly £2-3K deposit, don't think it is happening just yet.

On the plus side I might just get off my butt and sell my Ducati which has been sitting in my garage for too many years doing nothing and that combined with my bonus at the end of May should give me a nice deposit. Although the dealer won't agree I wouldn't mind betting that this car will still be there in a couple of months’ time. They do seem quite keen to get rid though as he has already mentioned another couple of K of the price.

Cheers,
Andy

Sorry to hear about the depreciation on your A4 :bash:

A test drive is fatal, not up to your Ducati performance, but they do go quite well :bigblink:

I walked away from mine 4 times (and looked at a few others) before I got what I wanted in the deal. If it sells there will always be another one, but you are right, the dealer will probably still have it in a few months time, and then you have even more to hammer them with :audibash:

As I bought mine during the last recession and had parents in law went very ill on us and we had a lot of financial uncertainty, I walked away from mine when it was brand new, so it sat in the show room for 4 months, I had accepted I had lost the 10% deposit .. then after 4 months Audi called and "discounted" to "help me" buy it :bigblink: .. so stay strong and get the right one for a good deal ..

Once you get one ... you'll love it

Thanks for the advice guys :beerchug: It should be quite interesting with the dealer this week, I've walked away in my mind but I guess the dealer is not going to easily let a deal walk. So let's see what they come up with, it might be good enough to get me in the car. If not this time around I'm sure another deal will come up :nogarors4:

Good spot, I assume Andy will be getting a phone call  I think it should come for less than that if they are dropping the price by that much that quickly, although the C6 price freefall does seem to have slowed a little :kissmyrings:

Ah, good spot :beerchug: They haven't called me yet but that seemed a very strange thing to do when they have someone interested! Not complaining though and there must be some room for negotiation left in there so this could be an interesting week :D Looking around at trade sales on Autotrader and Piston Heads I think they are now in the right ballpark for price on this one.

The one option this car does not have is privacy glass, I assume I can get the dealer to do this? Or will I be paying through the nose for something a 3rd party would be able to do at a fraction of the cost? Trouble is I don't want to screw up the future value by doing 3rd party mods. Any thoughts?

The other couple of items I don't like is that it has the light coloured headliner and the wheels are not the best in my opinion. Can't do anything about the headliner but the wheels can be changed later if I feel the need.

Can get the windows tinted using 3M film, will be about 150 to 250 GBP depending on where you go, A good detailer will do it ad also give a 2 year warranty.. Can be easily removed if needs be

4 Rims will be about 2500 if you go OEM .. this includes the TPMS monitors.

Looking at the specs and pictures of the car you are considering, it is not too basic

If the description is right, Parking advanced means rear parking camera
It has engine start on the console so is keyless, older style start button but the new shiny one only costs £34.50 + vat
TV function is nice, and cost loads
Front passenger memory is an extra
Only MMI 2G being a 2008 car
The wheels grow on you, I do have a spare set of 4 brand new (5 x triple spoke 20") with TPMS and Dunlop tyres, but no car to use them on
Just changed my 2009 Misano RS6 saloon for a 2011 Sepang RS3, it is ... Different...

Good luck

Sean

Cheers Sean, being new to these cars I've been trying to work out what is extra and what is standard but I'm getting there. As you say the spec isn't too shabby after all with a few nice features, I've just got hung up and a couple of items it doesn't have but I can easily get over that. I really like the push button start and thanks for the tip on changing to the new style, didn't know that :beerchug: The wheels aren't that bad its just I prefer the 5 spoke that are more common on these cars. These are the same as I have on my current A4 but then they are RS spec which would explain that. The good point about them is I like the darker tone to the finish, slightly classier I feel.

I have the 2G MMI in my current A4 and although it's nice I find it very old tech. Works well with my iPhone as a hands free system but it frustrates me I can't get access to the music held on the phone without dropping the antenna boost and changing facility :audibash:

However if I do get a deal on this car I can listen to the V10 soundtrack instead

And I might be calling you Sean to talk about those wheels

Last night I had walked away from this as the figures just weren't staking up, today, looks like it could be back on

Spec is ticking most of my boxes, thanks for all your help pointing these extras out :D I'm liking the colour a lot and I especially like the black grill surround, gives it a meaner look to my eye but I am biased as my current A4 has the black optic pack. Just need to see how flexible the dealer is willing to be. I have a monthly figure in my head as well as the deposit amount and by the research I have done on finance this looks achievable. Bottom line is the cost to change as highlighted earlier in the thread so down to the negotiation with the dealer. In my favour I don't need to be changing my car right now so I can walk away easily, the dealer wants it off his forecourt so I'm hoping this works well.

Cheers,
Andy
