Extended warranty confusion..

Post by ajsl » Mon May 24, 2004 4:08 pm

My stock standard 2000(W) S4 saloon is about to go out of warranty, it's currently on year 4 of an extended Audi warranty. After ringing my dealer (Lomond Audi in Glasgow) I was quoted the following prices to extend for another year:

£1243 - 1 year
£1281 - 1 year + roadside assistance
£1387 - 1 year including catalytic converters

I had a look at the other threads on this sort of thing, but there didn't seem to be a clear consensus..

The prices seem quite high to me, I was expecting something around the £800-£1000 mark?

Ideally I'd like to keep the standard Audi warranty, but if these are the going rates ( :( ) what are my best choices with regards to 3rd party warranty companies?

Alex.

I think PhilT managed to get a good warranty extension price...it does differ apparently...try searching on posts by him with "warranty"...

Seems strong when I got 2 years for £795, which has already paid for itself with the first claim, :D now to try and resolve the carpet issue:rant:

I paid £857 for a year's worth of Audi Approved Warranty on my 2001 S4 in April - still waiting for my £100 back as they overcharged me. Not moaning too much as they forked out for a visit by the turbo lady!

Thanks for the replies guys.

sitas3 and simple1 where did you get your warranty from?

Is there a central place I can ring? It seems odd that there's so much variation in the prices!

I got mine from Brighton Audi. The prices for the Audi Approved Warranty are fixed - however a dealer is free to get their 'Dealer' warranties from anywhere.

Sitas3, thanks for that. I had read that thread :)

What's becoming clear is that there's a lot of variation between dealers for extending the Audi warranty... I rang Guildford Audi and they came back with a price of £1,080! Which seems quite reasonable compared to the £1300 from Lomond Audi.

I'll need to clarify with Guildford whether or not it it’s an "Audi approved warranty"... Next year I'm just going to go with a 3rd party warranty (probably from Warranty Direct) !

I've just finalised my extended warranty with Guildford Audi (01483 547700) thanks to the pointer to these guys from the previous thread.

A very helpful chap called "James" at Guildford got me sorted out for the grand total of <drum roll> £850 for my 5th year extension :) Which is quite a difference from my initial quote from Lomond!

After speaking to James, it seems that the confusion and differing prices stem from the move away from AON as the warranty providers...

Anyway, thanks for the tips! :D

glad to hear you've got yours sorted. there shouldn't be any confusion really as the new warranty company (Mondial) have a fixed price list which all Audi dealers have... unless they're trying it on of course!

Another one for my warranty co this morning - Water temp sender, two DV's and I now need a new steering rack at a total cost of a grand!! So that's over 5 grand of work since April!
