Re: MANUAL GEARBOX
Yes I do have the gearbox remap (assuming that is the same thing?) and no, using the paddles just isn't coming naturally to me at this point. Have got old and not proud to admit when something doesn't come naturally to me but the paddles just aren't getting my interest at all
. Will make more of an effort with them and try a week or so just in manual and see if I can adapt.....

Re: MANUAL GEARBOX
You might prefer the buttons. The paddles would piss me off big time. I love changing gear with slight pressure from my right thumb.

Re: MANUAL GEARBOX
What buttons? I have the paddles on the front of the steering wheel, no buttons that I am aware of on the front of the steering wheel and the silly tiptronic +/- on the actual gear selector and that'ss it.

You get the buttons on the 4 spoke multifunction steering wheel.

Re: MANUAL GEARBOX
I am positively ancient, and I love the paddles. Admittedly, I use them mostly for engine braking but they are very useful when looking to overtake as I rather dowshift using those than mashing the carpet with all the attendant stresses on the gearbox.Mr Footlong wrote:Yes I do have the gearbox remap (assuming that is the same thing?) and no, using the paddles just isn't coming naturally to me at this point. Fortunately you're far more decent than I and thus missed my point. I was referring a different kind of woman, you know, the kind that you pay to leave after an hour, not the kind that stay with you 'til death do you part.monoi wrote:Doesn't make me much younger unfortunately!Mr Footlong wrote: Only as old as the woman ya paying for, eh?

Someone please please please swap me their three spoke wheel for my four spoke. The guy that ordered the car from new paid £245 extra for it over the three spoke, I'm just asking for a swap.

Re: MANUAL GEARBOX
Amanda, get your TC changed to ACE before the Germany trip, I 'shouldn't' be having my car converted to stage 2 yet, but how crazy would it have been not to have it running its best when going to the country it's was made for. Warranty direct ain't going to pay up at the best of times, get it changed yourself.

Im not sure what a remp of the gearbox will do exactly but im interested in finding out and at the moment Im learning how to drive this car again via the manual setting and building in slight delay time from the paddles. Its fun but throwing this 2 ton car around the lanes trying to use the facilities available but I was a sweaty mess afterwards!

By the way mother did have have a card ready for mothers day....but I figured the mother "in law" was more worthy receipient! Sorry Amar I did think about it but I expect Im not in the will anyway!

Re: MANUAL GEARBOX
Don't expect a mod'd TCU to change things radically. The MTM one for example, doesn't change anything in auto, only in tiptro (well, other than removing the torque limit that makes the box hunt if if the car is remapped).
In tiptro, though, it acts much more like a manual - it won't kickdown so if you're in 5th and floor it then you'll stay in 5th and not go anywhere. I like this. More importantly, it keeps the TC locked up when you lift off so you get engine braking and a much more connection to the car. It's hard to describe. It'll let you kangeroo if you get the throttle wrong, just like a manual. It will however change up if you hit the rev limiter.
It's just that much more involved with the MTM TCU and, for me, it makes all the difference. Couldn't care less about doing 30mph in 5. And it doesn't do that, anyway.
You get a feeling for when you need to ask it to change down / up after a while and the whole driving experience becomes more "flowing".

Re: MANUAL GEARBOX
So if your on the motorway doing 80 in 5th and you decide to press on the go faster peddle - does it stay in 5th or drop down a gear and make you like your an t**t.
I say this because generally when I want to accelerate from 80 to 100 - I want to do it quickly but not drop down a gear and storm off - to only change gear again to cruise - Mine just kicks down - even when on the paddles. I could live with the box if it simply stayed in gear when in paddle mode - I drive mine on the paddles 99% of the time as its the only way to drive the box and get it to change up and down normally.
I'm using the grizz gear box map - which I have mixed feelings about. Especially motorway cruising, and trying to reach warp speed.
.. It's possibly down to the torque the cars now packing but it's bloody annoying ! Especially with the Mitek 3" down pipes, and decat Mitek system - its like awakening a thunder storm. a bit startling for your average joe who's plodding in the middle lane when kick down takes place... Certainly woken a few people up from their motorway trance !
