I contacted the seller, and after a long rambling set of messages here's what he said after the sale was ended prematurely earlier today:

This car was branded, specc'ed and sold by a main audi dealership as such...I think they may know a little more about Audis than you do, being licensed UK sellers.

Anyway, the car is sold to someone who knew exactly what they were looking at, so it really shouldn't bother you anymore.

So he claims an Audi main dealer sold it badged as an RS4 and it's genuine

I was going to query his listing but it is so full of holes I couldn't be arsed. Feel sorry for the person who has bought it because it must be rough. I don't get why you would replace OEM 400 cell cats with 400 cell race cats, there is little to no difference.

There are soooo many things to laugh about in this ad, I've got some time so here are my notes:

-V6 Audi Competition Engine (really? why?)
-5 Speed steptronic box with sport mode and steering wheel button over ride ( O_o )
-Rally style push manual option (is this where you get all the rally spectators to push you?)
-Service History - October 2002 – 15, 889 to March 2004 – 42, 812 (WTF???)
-Sounds like a V8 at stand still (at stand still... and this is important, how?)
-19in R8 10 spoke racing alloys... These wheels are not cheap imports (so the rear wheels are 10" wide then?)
-They are wrapped in Hankook Ventus V12 EVO Low profile racing tyres (competition engine, racing tyres, racing wheels - really?)
-Dark Silver powder coated wing mirrors, look less blingy than the shiny RS mirrors of late (so these aren't actual RS mirrors then? Well done)
-Enlarged wheel arches (really?)
-Full all round black RS4 branding (except it's not RS4 stuff, it's all black knock off stuff)
-Stealth kit, car looks completely stock at a glance (what does this mean? Cherie Blair is mildly good looking "at a glance". How does "at a glance" work in real life? If you've got to explain that something looks a particular way when viewed "at a glance", then you're a fucken idiot.)
-This car looks very menacing, but stock at a glance. (Again, the "at a glance" thing, is it a Transformer? It'll look like a BMW if you squint hard enough, so stop this nonsense, now)
-Full cream leather with black accent – very rare combination, black carpets on cream, black accent fittings, I know of no other car with this interior (So Audi limited this colour combination to match your knowledge? Amazing, so if you suffered a knock to the head, thus causing amnesia, this car's interior would vanish?)
-Electric front windows - weight saving option (no, manual windows are lighter)
-Manual seats – weight saving option (or these are just manual seats, no seats or actual light weight seats would have been the actual weight saving option)
-Leather RS4 document booklet (Ah huh, so you've got yourself an RS4 book, well done, do you notice that the car pictured in the book isn't the car parked on your driveway? Why is that?)
