Upgrading to Carbon Ceramic Brakes - ECU Re-Code.

Post by Nudenut » Sat Mar 10, 2012 7:43 pm

Right listen up!

As regular readers will be aware I previously had my C6 RS6 brakes upgraded from standard steel to Mov'it Carbon Ceramics and by chance my local Audi tech mentioned that the ECU would need re-coding.

I booked the car in and as part favour/part experiment it was connected up to Audi Technical in Milton Keynes whom updated my ECU accordingly, at the time I have to admit I didn't notice a difference (didn't expect too) but was happy in the knowledge it was done.

Last week I had my R8 retro fitted with a full OEM set of Carbon Ceramic brakes including the servo change (on advice from my tech that it was different and badged C for Ceramic), I completed the bedding in process as directed by Audi and used the car a few times through the week, the brakes were great!!

Today I had my ECU re-coded for the CC brakes and OMG the difference is night and day... feel and power are transformed, the car is obviously now making best use of the servo (nearly put myself through the windscreen!) and ABS / Hill Hold Assist / Pad Wipe etc are optimised and correct.

So point of the thread... for those of you putting Carbon Ceramics onto your cars as an upgrade, be it OEM or third party please be aware that to get the best and safest operation out of them you need to change the the ECU coding and I'd check the servo is correct too!!
