This thread is valid. The new M5 is being shipped with a manual option Stateside. A manual C6 would be a laugh, imagine 1st to 2nd WOT, that'd be one hell of a smile on yer dial. I admit it's not what the C6 RS is about but I'd be interested to know, if the option was given, how many manual C6 RSes would be in the wild right now.

But have you driven a C6 RS6 with the S-tronic gearbox on track??I have driven auto's before on a track in exactly the same scenario as a manual and the gearbox has not allowed a change down when it was safe to do so
in a manual
I have been on track with "ordinary" Auto boxes and agree with you! Never though would you have this problem with the S-Tronic, it's intelligence would only intervene in the same way your manual gearbox would, if you tried to force it into 2nd at 100mph!
R-tronic gearbox in the R8 on the other hand?? I did Audi's R8 Track day at Silverstone back in October and the manual was by far the better drive - I would rather walk with a nail in my shoe than have an R-Tronic!
I totally agree with the fact that the car is perfectly suited to the gearbox/weight/power/Rhino shipping abilites.

C6 is slosh tronic not S-Tronic. But it's a goodun. Locks up nice and early so sloshing is minimal.

C6 slush Box is ok when mapped BUT still changes up and down when it fancies rather than you choose, tricky on track, but it's not a track car!
R-Tronic box in the R8 is an Automated manual, same box and clutch as the Manual with an actuator.... BUT it will NOT change until you tell it too!
You need to drive the R-tronic box to get the best from it... oh... like a MANUAL

The last thing you would want to do is have to fix the gear box for an RS6. So i am more then happy for it to idiot proof it and tell me when i can change down gears safely. The auto is so much faster then I could ever change the gears manually.
It going to be tough for these manual only people as the years go on, the new audi are going to be main stream autos and the new manuals are just getting slower and slower. (new A3 manual is .2 sec slower then the auto, and thats just the base a3)

Is one of the reasons why I didn't consider a Merc AMG as Auto only. The B7 RS4 is IMHO the best all round performance car with manual GearboxJSG wrote:

Kinda agree ... In my experience road wise its a "flawless" box.. yes on track in the hands of experienced it may do some "strange" things .. however when I was with the instructor at Bedford I ran the car in S so I could concentrate on the "other stuff" .. and it did what he was about to suggest every time about 0.5 seconds before he said it after lap two of instruction he just berated me about my line and ignored any advice on gear changedJSG wrote:The last thing you would want to do is have to fix the gear box for an RS6. while on the subject of the auto box in the C6 RS6, can some one explain to me why mine and all other C6 RS6 'fart" on the upshift. very noticeable at say 3/4 throttle openings going from first to second. Is it because the engine power/torque has to be momentarily stopped on the upshift to preserve the converter/clutches in the auto box and unburnt fuel 'catches up' or is it purely cosmetic for aural purposes?
My C5 RS6 flat changes on the upshift on any throttle postion, including full throttle.
I would just like to know why the C6RS6 does this. Must be some good Audi reason, and i would appreciate hearing it. A mate of mine says that audi have programmed the engine to dump fuel into the exhaust on the upchanges so 'farts' through the exhaust. Surely not.
I have read that the new M5 BMW V8 tt does stoop to aural 'amplification' tricks to enhance the exhaust "noise" inside the cabin, according to recent road test.
I would not be surprised if a Tesla sports car did this , unless it wanted to be known as 'whispering death', but surely not BMW and Audi.
ps BOT- the C6 RS6 is perfectly suited to the auto box it has. With a manual gearbox and if mapped at 700+ bhp, as some are, it would not be a pleasant car to drive under full throttle after you got tired of the first few burnouts and side steps on changing gears. I believe a manual gearbox would on the gear changes upset the RS6's balance when driven in a spirited manner.
An unbalanced car is the last thing you want from my experience when you are putting down 700 bhp+ unless you want to exit stage right into the scenery!
