Dreaded alternator failiure, how much?

Hi there got the dreaded alternator problem and needs replacing, how much should I be paying, been quoted £750 supplied and fitted for an Audi one and £650 for a oe spec one

Help please!

Also I'm based in Tyne and wear area, any decent garages around this region anyone who know there way round an rs6 :

Alternator price as of last year £259.07 + vat
Total price from unit 20 £498.29 for supplying and fitting an oem one.
950 nm torque!

Ohh running bridgestones because they are the best ;)

Thank you for info, figuring out best way to get it trailered to Cheshire if possible from Tyne and wear as my recovery only allow for 10miles to garage :(

Mine has gone as well...I'm in Baku at the moment...so will be a couple of weeks before I get this done at the Volks Center in Aberdeen...was thinking around £450 for removal and relacement with a recon unit...will let you know how it pans out

You should be able to get a new/ factory exchange unit fitted for that .

Audi have quoted 320 for the alternator and then could get some discount from them with the premier plus 6 card

Grizz has a flat bed to transport aswell, i think anyway. It would be better to let him have a look over the motor than a dealer in my opinion

Just thought i'd add my name to the list as my alternator packed up today :audibash: This car is really trying my patience atm, i have pampered it since owning it and it's not being grateful :thumbsdown:

didn't think mine had been done yet, but was filing away the mountain of receipts i have and it was done last year by main dealer, thank god!

I am sitting here with my fingers in my ears going LALALA. I think that the previous owner may have had it replaced (need to check the paperwork again) but I really am not 100% about how good a job was done on the cambelt replacement as I am sure they skipped over certain things like rollers etc.
