Hi - was just checking my tyre depth on the M3 and noticed this mark across the face of the tyre tread - picture below - I havent seen this before - anything to be concerned about? Tyres are conti sport 3 with just under 4k miles on them - plenty of tread.
Cheers!
Tyre wear/marking
Re: Tyre wear/marking
Hi Dunc.
This looks like a tread seperation caused by contamination part way down the skived edge during the production process of applying the tread to the carcass. It could be a mould issue but as the crack seems to go as far as the shoulder this is unlikly.
IF this is a potential tread seperation then the resulting failure could be a tread seperation like you see on the side of the motorway with truck treads sometimes. If you had the tyres fitted take the car back to the supplier ASAP and ask them to get a Conti engineer to come and have a look. Given Conti's past history with tyre failures in the past, they will take this seriously.
You do sometimes see this type of crack on racing compounds, its called cold crack, but NOT on road compounds.
Please mate do it sooner rather than later.
Hope this helps.
Cheers
