I lusted after a B5 RS4 but the timing clashed with delivery of a new company car. Same again with the B7, but this time I put a deposit down soon after the delivery of a company B6 RS4, and took the hit of running both for a year or so. Both earlier RS4s turned my head, made me follow them in traffic, and (once I had my own) made me look back every time I parked it.

I'm afraid this one leaves me entirely cold. Does anyone think there's a kid (grown up or otherwise) with a poster of this on their bedroom wall?

the avant does not really suit my needs...not many performance 4 door saloons about now...seems strange as the b7 was the first rs4 saloon audi made and it outsold the avant, so there is a market for them

I love the new design as nothing about it makes me jealous and want to change ny B7, styling is now too boring and unaggressive a la RS6

probably but weight on too

only thing I do like is the wheels- quite GT3 like

might have been different if avant came out same time as saloon? (I chose a saloon over the avant as I didn't want/need the extra space/weight)

apparently Audi are saying the A5 sportback S model gives a saloon option

What a crock of <beep> from Audi. Just go (try) and sit in an A5 4 door. It's a coupe so has incredibly compromised rear space. The B7 A4 isn't exactly cavernous but it does the job nicely.
And they are not going to make an RS5 sportback (or it's very very unlikely) so not really a comparable option.

I don't get what the fuss is... There's no big extra costs to offering a saloon version as it already exists as a car. The B7 was successful and is a proper 4 door car not a coupe like the M3 and RS5.
I don't see why a new RS4 saloon should tread on the toes of the RS5 as the way I see it two very different people buy those cars.

could not agree more adsgreen....it just seems a strange decision to ditch the 4 door saloon after it debuted on the b7 and was the best selling..

RS5 Sportback in the pipeline perhaps?

...actually, scratch that. I don't really see Audi making three versions of a niche car. It doesn't make economic sense. Sorry non-estate lovers, but Audi decided that what you lot really wanted was a coup.

When I think about it some more I'm wrong. They did it for the B7: saloon, avant and convertible.

well i'm quite glad its going back to Avant only as the originals were in that format only until the RS6 came along and made the saloon to suit the American market.
Ther RS2-4 were the fastest Avants on the market and no other car manifacture could touch them no they driftefd into the fight of the M3 and AMG
