Re: Which brake pads are ok for the RS6?
There are 2 schools of thought on here about engine braking on these auto boxes. I do it sometimes but normally only when I am braking with a long run up/not silly speeds.

Re: Which brake pads are ok for the RS6?
im off the thought of that there is far more stress put on the box when accelerating than engine braking.
i have and always will use engine braking regardless of car or box.

Then its not the braking fluid!Mr Footlong wrote:There are 2 schools of thought on here about engine braking on these auto boxes. I do it sometimes but normally only when I am braking with a long run up/not silly speeds.

I did use the paddles in the mountains as the car has much more instant acceleration (useful for overtaking 5 cars within a 100yds, or a very short space!
I also use downshift on motorways for example to slow down (hey, it cuts fuel so every little helps!), or in town. Thinking about it, quite a lot in fact!
Is it bad for the box?

Re: Which brake pads are ok for the RS6?
That is the thing, nobody really knows for certain I think, as with so many things about this car
. I am still learning this car so I am erring on the side of caution is all. As long as not engine breaking at crazy rpms I personally don't see any issue but this box seems quite butter-like for this car..... I always engine brake a fair bit in manuals. Engine braking on mountain runs is a given, I always do and do the same a fair bit on Motorways etc. Once the honeymoon period is over I am just going to use the box how I want and if it screws up, c'est la vie, no big thing.

I think the most important is the warm up, and I really have an egg on top of another egg on the throttle until I see the water at 90. Then I remove 1 egg until the oil temp needle has moved past the 1st marker.
Then I switch the DIS to instant mpg, and I keep the egg!

Re: Which brake pads are ok for the RS6?
Well lone poster comes back, decided after much investigation to go with the mintex pads with all new front and rear discs, ohhhh by the way i rang the famous Grizz up for a quote on front and rear drilled discs i was told the price with discount and they said that they would weigh them for the courier company to quote a price on them, 2 fooking days went by they never even rang me, and they still have not, so i thought sod him, went to Virdee Autos who only quoted £250 less than Grizz and shipped the next day, so any one looking for a better price than unit 20 go to Virdee, Rant over,

Re: Which brake pads are ok for the RS6?
HI guys in the same boat at the mo got a very very slight ghosting of a ring coming on the front discs so looking like the famous rivets are coming through but stilll have around 4mm of pad left so not best pleased that they have to go but not risking the disc just for the sake of it. As our speed limit is 40mph and only go over to france a few times per year i think i can risk the maybe lower performance of the mintex. I see a lot of people go for mintex fronts but OE audi pads on the rear, what's the thinking for this as the mintex rears are half the price of the pagids. Has anyone ever used the brembo pads as the F/calipers are brembo they cant be that bad can they? Cheers Sean

I would go for Mintex all round in your case.

Re: Which brake pads are ok for the RS6?
Any opinions on the brembos Shop? Yeah i know what some may think only 40mph, why do you need a 6 answer is cause i LOVE them!!
Re: Which brake pads are ok for the RS6?
I don't know. The brembo OEM on the C6 are really good. Never heard anythign about them good or bad on the C5. I would have thought they'd be pretty good. I never really care much about the rear brakes, maybe wrongly, but I certainly wouldn't want them to outperform the fronts
I can't believe 40 is the highest speed limit. Are they rigorously enforced?

Re: Which brake pads are ok for the RS6?
mmmm not going to chance it without some opinions on the brembos. Yep 40 all the way is out highest but there are no speed cameras just smiley boards. The police do have crack downs now and then but being such a small island and the joys of social media sites they aren't secret for very long. The only good thing is our west coast has a 5 mile long straight road which comes in handy when you want to let off some steam.

Re: Which brake pads are ok for the RS6?
Hmm, the more I drive on the Mintex the more I think that they aren't for me. Finding that they are very dusty but far more importantly, they just don't shed speed as well as I want them too. I might be asking too much of the C5 brake setup tbh but the discs/calipers feel like they have the cability to work betteer than they are, hence why I am thinking that the pads aren't all that for more aggressive driving
