Elephant - any good?

The wife just a quote on t he RS4 which is under 400 compared with £1200!!!!!!!

Is this normal or is there a catch. With Business use etc.

I had a very good quote with them this time and went for it.
I hope the claims process is good (not that I want to try you understand)

I'm with them and they were cheap (£820) for stage 3 S4 (B6). The service so far has been way beyond expecttionsd and anyother company i've dealt with. How many insurnace companies have ever said to you - "let me check and then call you back to save you hanging on the line".

So far so good.

have you seen how much it costs to ring them though!!!!!!! Depending on which dept. you are ringing £1.00 pm!!!!!

I could call them quite a few times saving £800, but obviously there has to be a reason to pay more.

My broker got it down to just under £1,000 without asking them but it is still over double which is a lot for a second car.

Any other experieinces? Also when is the £1/min call charge come in?

I've called them three times and never had anymore that a national call rate applied. I think it may be the claim line but normal customer services doesn't appear to be a rip-off.

I checked as well and the lines all seem to be 0870 so could well me the claim ones, which to be honest by the time you are at that stage is not too important as long as the claim is being dealt with and you are covered.

I have to say on my Cosworth they were also frighteningly cheap altough I eventually sold the car and did not use the service.

I will bear these in mind and speak to them again Tuesday.

try bell direct too, they are a sister company, and were for me slightly cheaper than elephant.

I went with them in the end as the quote was 380 (up to 420 with higher mileage and driveway parking etc) down from £980.

Obviously there is a chance of problems but I went through it with my Broker and he said it was a cracking deal and no differnt to Norwich Union which I have now.

One of the chaps at work had his Merc CLK burst into flames on the way to work, when he called Elephant they advised him he wasn't covered!!! as it was an electrical or mechanical problem and therefore not covered by his insurance.

Eventually they agreed to recover and inspect the car (as a goodwill jesture!). They subsequently agreed today they would cover the car as they were unable to determine the cause, having seen the pics I'm not surprised..big melted lump of ally in the engine bay...but a very scary thought.

I just went on line with Elephant to change the registration (now a private plate). I was expecting to have to pay for £3.50 for the modification to the policy.

When I completed it, it says that I'm gonna be charged £3.50 plus there is a change to the insurance premium due to the change on the car.

They are now going to refund £14.86 to my credit card!!

Just looking at the policy exclusions as mentioned above :

3. What is not covered
We will not pay:

the first amount of any claim shown in your current Policy Schedule under Excess Details
for loss or damage to your car or loss of money from selling your car to someone who deceives you
where your car is taken or driven without your consent by a family member, spouse, or partner
for loss of use (including the cost of hiring a car)
for loss or damage caused by theft or attempted theft where you or any other person covered under this policy has left your car unlocked and unattended or has left the ignition keys in the car
for the replacement of your CD player, radio cassette player or any other audio equipment, if we pay you a cash sum to replace your car
for wear and tear
for any loss or damage caused by mechanical, electrical, electronic, computer failures, breakdowns or breakages
for any loss to the market value of your car as a result of it being repaired
for any modifications unless they form part of the manufacturer's standard specification.

I`ve been with elephant for a few years now..and they really are that cheap. Only prob I had was when I changed the car on my policy they took 8 days to get the new certificate thru to me. only charged me £17 to change from 2.3 coupe to S2 avant.

Elephant are good.

Just been given a good quote for my renewal. HAlf of that other companys have given me.

Not bad at all.

Been with them 6 years. Had one claim which they sorted out promptly.
