detailing product help!

Post by swannny » Fri Jan 27, 2012 10:38 pm

hi guys,

i'm after some advice please!

i'm looking at detailing my car within the next few weeks,

i'm looking at buying a d/a, prob meguiars or something similar, and i'd like paint correction done, but what product is best, and what procedure should i follow? i have a daytona black rs6, really want a deep shine with no swirl marks, and get rid of that awful orange peel!

also, not sure if its important, but the front bumper, wing and bonnet will be fresh paint, prob only a couple of weeks old.

i'm normally an auto glym fanatic, but i'm thinking there may be better products out there!

thanks,

lee.

Have a look at the Scholl range specificly designed for the German car range as the paint is extra hard are you into deatiling at all claying the car is a must before hand (sorry to be sounding a pleb).
Have you looked at detailingworld.co.uk
Give Elitecarcare a call Alex is very helpfull plus he is into the German Cars

Hiya mate, Audi paint is hard as nails and you wont get rid of any orange peel without wet sanding let alone with a DA....while it will though knock the level of swirls down it will take a long time and may even leave you frustrated at the finish....

Claying is essential as is Iron decontamination as well...detailing isnt just about machine polishing and then adding a shine....I take roughly 16 hrs for an RS6 and I could go even further....

I know you want to give it a go yourself so I would recommend you try Scholl Concepts S3 Gold Edition on a Spider Sandwich Pad to get the cut and then S17+ with an Orange Scholl Pad....you can then crisp it all up with S30+ but all this kit is going to cost you a small fortune....you may be able to find a DA for a fair price but with polishes and pads, of which you will need no less than 5 of each for your motor only to find that when you have done it you dont need them anymore will push the cost up well high....the pads themselves are between £10 and £15 each...so to do this properly it would cost you over £120 in pads....

I know this sounds like I am putting you off but just trying to make you aware that detailing isnt cheap....

If you want to have a look at my website http://www.cardetailingsheffield.co.uk you will find a couple of PDF' in there....one is a Reflectology PDF and the other is a guide I produced on Scholl Concepts and that one tells you all you need to know with hints, tips and a few tricks in it as well....

cheers for the help guys,

i will def be using the clay bar first, my mates just done it on his s8 and its come up awesome!

as for the small fortune bit, i spent around £300 on auto glym products in the summer, just to keep the shelves topped up, so i reckon around £400 - £500 should be a starting point. i mean after all, this is car maintenance is serious tuff, and i'm pretty fussy, lol!

that elite website looks brilliant, i'm sure to put an order through this week!

cheers again, hope you're having a good weekend!
