Hi guys, noise inside the car is exactly the same. No difference at all, still in Manchester at the mo, shopping with the girlfriend at the Trafford centre, had the missues drive it for me and I stood outside, probably a 5-10% noise increase. The plus exhaust is awesome, I'll try and get a sound bite at some point, or someone will at tomorrows meet. Maybe it's a worthwhile mod for a non plus, but not for a plus, not at all. I'll wait till I get home and I can have a mate hammer it past to see if it's any louder, but if I can't tell the difference inside the car, is it worth it? Hmm, I'll let you know in a few days, how much are non res pipes Mr. footlong?

Sounds like non res is the way forward then but its the droning effect on the motorway Id worry about.... drive you nuts after while I exect. The only other thing is that the Miltek will fill out the back housings better than a stock I suppose. Cant you stick some race cats or something in to make it louder??? :?

non res is the ONLY way

there is no drone as the '6 is so well insulated

There is plenty of drone in the non res.
Makes it loud and unbearable under load at around 2500revs.
Best all round solution is use the Milltek tailpipes and stick them on the Plus zorst.

there is a bit of drone on motorway, but nothing bad, as said the 6 is pretty well sound insulated.

apparantly mine sounds like a spitfire on full chat on a drive by, but currently i've yet to hear it for myself as no one has driven the car other than me,

It also depends on what you do with the rest of the system. I have decatted downpipes and the Res system - it is definately louder both inside and out (politely so!!), but is perfectly acceptable on the motorway.

It also depends on how much junk you have in the back. I had mine fully laden on the rumn down to Wales, and it was noticable quieter - though with the extra mid range torque/power was just as quick as ever :FIREdevil:

Please could someone clarify what de-catted downpipes and 100 cell cats are for me ? If race cats were purchased for example, is any further work recommended on the downpipes ( to improve / upgrade ), or is it effectively the same thing ?
Do our 6's have 2 lots of cats also ; Pre-cats and cats ?
Many thanks

There are two stages of catalytic converters on our beasts - usually referred to as Pre-cats and Main cats

First there are precats in the down pipes - IIRC these are 200 cell (in each pipe).

Then the main cats in the box under the car are also 200 cell IIRC - so total (in each exhaust) is 400 cell

There are various different combinations of removal that people seem to go for:
- removing the precats, which frees up air flow in the downpipes allowing faster turbo spool up (total left 200 cells)
- replacing the main cats with 100 cell "race cats" (total left 300 cells)
- both the above - which is about the max one can do and stay within emmissions limits (total left 100 cell)
- remove everything - and be illegal!! (total zero!!)

It seems that some folk have left the pre-cats in, but then gone for 100 cell race cats - personally this doesn't seem logical as it leaves the 200 cell pre-cats in the DP's, and these create the biggest back pressures.

Any of the above should only be done with a modified ECU - otherwise you will actually lose power, and have a dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree!

OK - now Shop will correct the number of cells!!
