Cheers Dave, will have a look tomorrow. Its so bloody annoying more than anything else. Car doesnt vibrate at speed, doesnt drag left or right, brakes in a straight line etc.

Even checked the tyre pressures. put 30psi front 29psi rear; no idea if is this is correct?

check that the rear bumper is not vibrating.
There is a clip somewhere in the middle that stops it from flapping about.
If that is loose the bumpers vibrate.

Since this only happens in 6th though, I doubt it is that.
I'd suggest lifting the centre console of and the noise damper, and then going for a drive, to see if you can hear any funny gearbox noises.

Does it matter if you are gently accelerating or decelerating through the critical speed ?
Reason I ask is that this puts the drive train in tension one way or the other.

Finally, try swapping wheels front to back and see if the noise moves, or you gain a bit of wheel vibration. If you do its likely to be either a tyre or wheel.

Cheers,
John.

I think it should be around 36 or 38 IIRC for standard size wheels & tyres. Not sure if your sportecs are same width as standard or what tyres size your running.

IIRC they (audi) put 'revised' sticker inside the petrol flap for me when my car was last in.
No sig, no RS4 anymore

Yeah, you're definately low with 30....the sticker says 38 front 36 rear for 2 people loading....but again, that's standard wheels....I can't see the sportecs being much different though ?

Iain,

LOOOOVE my swedish wife. She looks like a gymnast and she sells bred and cakes so folks like you and your wife can keep on pulling teeth out of peoples mouths.
The toe-rag is an exellent machine. Its so good its boring. The only negative thing is the bad respons of the gear box at very low speed. If you don`t put it in the Sport thing.
Don`t use loads of oil on the K&N filter. Then absolutely no problem at all.

I think I need to change the tyre pressures on the car AND the wife reading the post from SPS....

I'll try the above pressures though its running 255/35/18s Potenzas! AVS Yokos are going on it next £195 each fitted and balanced, though digressing slighlty.

Go back to work Sunday in Septic Tank land for 1 week so Car booked in June 1st at SKF for resonance problem. I really hope they can find problem. No loose spoiler, rear bumper firmly attached etc etc.

ONLY thing I can think since resonance started was I put some ceramic kitchen floor tiles in car last week for a friend, evenly loaded them but there were quite a lot, at least 240kg worth....couldnt put my hand in between the wheel and wheel arch., though they were evenly loaded throughout the car.........any ideas? took it nice and steady for the 30mile drive, all motorway.

SPS, where do you find these women? all the women I know shave and drink pints! And as for Septic Tank land......300lb women in lycra......nuff said! :D

£500 for a 4 wheel align, robbing bar stewards

I think AmD charge around £100

What about a dodgy tyre? A buldge or something?
Can't beat a bit of boost!

Mystery solved......Kwik Fit, next to useless. Resonance got worse today so went to visit Jeffreys performance Tyres in Warrington (Highly recommended) 01925 247560 www.jeffreyshpt.co.uk ......Explained problem,

Tyres came off and they were Square!!!!! Because car hasnt been used a lot and stood still since new, inner wall of tyre was collapsing. Weird to see what appeared to be a right angle on the wall of a tyre!

Have now got brand new set of Dunlop SP Sport Maxx. £195 each corner fitted and balanced....new on the market I guess as I got free watch and umbrella!!! 94Y rated.

Dont S'pose anyone has these on the car yet? If so any comments? My first impression is that they are very quiet.

Car is back to way it should be! Thnx for all the suggestions....I'm now a happy camper!!!!

Nice to know the Audi stealer wanted to take £500 to "solve my problem" and didnt mention the tyres!!
