Wheel Option Nightmare

Post by R1NGA » Sun Jan 22, 2012 7:50 pm

Folks,

I am in need of your assistance please?!

I am 1000 miles into my time with my S4 and I am very happy with it. However, I now have an issue with the wheels as I tried to fit the big Ceramic brakes that came off my RS6.

The good news is that the Movits' fit onto the S4 hubs just nice and all that was required to get the calipers in the correct position was a pair of new brackets which are being machined next week. The bad news is that those 19" 20-spoke Audi split rims won't clear the calipers. Ideally I want a set of A4/A5/S4 Black Edition wheels as they should really be on the car already (it has the rest of the black edition options), but I guess the chap who ordered it swapped the wheel choice for these things. Thought I had found an unmarked set on eBay but it turns out they're RS6 sized (9x19 ET33) rather then S4 proportions (8.5x19 ET43). They look like bloody Carlos Fandangoes on the car and I am sure they would hit the arches on full compression, so I now need to fight with the seller to get my money back. They most definately did NOT come off his S4 as he suggested. These are the design that I want.

My question though - is there a single, standard size for S4 alloys - ie: 19x8.5 ET43 as fitted to mine currently - or are there variations? I am surprised that the 19x9 ET33's that I bought don't fit, as others on the S4forum in the US see to have fitted all manner of rims onto their (mostly 'lowered) cars. When fitted yesterday, these new rims stuck out beyond the rims by a full 10mm. The current wheels dont even make it to the edge of the wings. No idea what car these Black Edition alloys came from, but it can't have been an S4.

Ideas or options anyone?

Thanks.

.... meant to say, the crucial area for clearance is just behind the spokes, where the calipers are closest. As it happens, the 20-spoke splits were also too tight in diameter on the inside face, on account of the extra metal needed for the split bit and bolts.

All very frustrating.

I've now found out exactly what the A4/S4 wheel sizes are supposed to be, so to close this thread neatly, the Black Edition wheels are;

Current model B8 A4/S4: 8.5x19 ET43 Hub/Centre-bore size: 66.6mm (early B8 cars and previous were normal Audi 57.1mm bore)
A5/S5: 9.0x19 ET33 Hub/Centre-bore size: 66.6mm (these stick out an extra 16mm and look daft as well as hit the arches I suspect)

By comparison, a C5 RS6 for example is 9.0x19 ET35 Hub: 57.1mm

So modern 66.6mm bore wheels need an appropriate spigot ring pushed onto the hub first (eBay, £5), if need to be fitted to an older car.

My search continues. When I find my Black Edition wheels for an S4 I will have a perfect set of similarly sized Audi/BBS Speedline 20-spoke Split Rims for sale.....

Thanks.
