Could do with some TLC, but seller sounds reasonably honest.
Could be a bargain to someone as long as they go in with there eyes wide open

For interest, RS blue RS2 for sale in Cape Town at the moment for GBP equivalent of 16500. 148000kms, but I understand for a reliable source that its been hammered.

Last day of the eBay RS2 auction. I am tempted, but wary of buying an RS2 via eBay without having it checked out first, especially considering this one has had a hard life. Still looks a bargain though.

It depends on whether you are going to keep it or not. The mileage will make resale more difficult.
If you spend another 2k on it you will probably have a very good car, but as you say it is difficult to know without any sort of inspection. :?

Certainly wouldnt be planning a quick sale, and not buying for 'investment', buying because i want an RS2 to play with! Would have preferred lower miles and a prev inspection, but if price doesnt go up, and with the big brakes and defects attended too by seller before sale it is very very tempting.

i think it is quite a bargain. except those miles 168k ! not filling me with cofidence.

I agree with David - give him a call and see what the deal is exactly. Maybe you could see if he will do the sale pending an AA/RAC Inspection - you never know. The car can take the miles, it is just a matter of what condition it is in and how it has been maintained. There are plenty of guys on the S2 Forum that have down higher mileages than this, with cars still running strong.

As you can see this thread has been subscribed to entirely by those of us who already have Polar Silver RS2s - it will be nice to have another one in the RS246 fold :thumb:

Thanks Guys. I emailed him and amongst the things he replied with were:

"Apart from the paintwork, there isn't really much to detract from what is otherwise, a very impressive car. I'd agree with you up to a point about the mileage, but it that is exactly what makes it potentially affordable. There is an oil leak coming from somewhere around the oil cooler and I think one of the coil packs is breaking down, but these will have been sorted by the time you see it, if you win."
"I understand that Fontain have sold their red 140,000 mile example for £13,500 so I reckon that you would be on to a winner if this comes for anything less than £10k. If it goes over that, then it probably won't be such a bargain. Having said that, if I had had the paintwork done first, and not mentioned anything about it, I reckon might have made closer to £12k."

So I set myself the £10K target price, and as it is has now hit £10,350, I think I will pass on this one. Price is climbing and there are too many unknowns. He does seem an honest enough guy, but I think its worth paying a little more and getting inspections/warranties etc.

There will be others...

and its gone...for £11,101 in the end, still a pretty good price for an RS2...hope it has gone to a good home, but i have a suspicion it is another car dealer who bought it, so it may reappear (M901 FUF).

Could be a good deal, maybe not. There certainly will be others. There always seem to be 2-3 on Autotrader.
Well done to sticking to your price limit.
There was a Volcano Black one that sold for £10,000 in December - RHD & about 125,000 miles if I remeber correctly. Once again I think it needed a bit of TLC, but they are starting to appear at around this price bracket. If you want anything with less than 100,000 miles & a warranty you are looking at 15.5K up
