Tyres anyone ?
Tyres anyone ?
Hi lads I have just picked up a B6 S4 Avant and although the car is immaculate it has been fitted with 235/40/18 Falken tyres, now I am not saying the Falkens are no good but as far as I can see the Falkens are at the budget end of the performance tyre market so given the cars performance I would rather fit something a little more suitable
Can anyone make any suggestions on good tyres for the car ??

Cheers lads I shall pop along to Mr newsagents and sneak yet another mag past the missus ( you would think I was buying porn the way I hide em all )
Re: Tyres anyone ?
oooh and can I go a bit wider ? or will I spoil the ride/rub the arches. Its running Audi option 18" alloys ( look like the B5 RS4 wheels )
Not that it doesnt grip but you can never go too wide in my book, the more rubber on the road the better
I have checked mytyres.co.uk and their prices on the F1's are good but I have noticed the local tyre fitters have put their prices up if you take in someone elses tyres
Charlatons, £20 to fit and balance a tyre which takes him 5 minutes including removal from the car, thats a possible £240 per hour and thats nearly £500,000 annual salary if he was kept busy, who does he think he is feckin Prince ?!?!?!?!?!
And he wondered why I laughed at him and walked off !

Re: Tyres anyone ?
Someone told me on here that anyting other than Michelins was a compromise.... Tyres, being the only thing between you and the road, are not something that should be compromised on so i'm having 4 x Michelin PS3's fitted on Saturday

Re: Tyres anyone ?
My sentiments exactly
But looks like I may have started a bit of a debate on this, I do not intend to test the limits of the cars potential but I still would like the widest stickiest rubber I can get so any ideas on width ? or is 235/40 the optimum ?

Re: Tyres anyone ?
Don't stray from 235/40.
Michelin Pilot Sports were neither grippier nor lasted longer than Goodyear Asymmetrics from personal experience on our family Sportback 2.0 TDi 140 Sport, fwd six speed manual, factory 17s. If anything the Michelins actually wore out faster, a frankly ridiculous 9500 miles, and tailed off badly in the wet approaching the wear limiters, whereas the Asymmetrics were still gripping like glue right down to 1.6mm.
I'll be going for Asymmetric 2s when the time comes this year to replace the Dunlops my S4 came with.

The dunlop's were shocking on my s4. Could get it sideways around islands in the damp where the goodyears would stick.Ian_C wrote:Don't stray from 235/40.

I've had all models of the f1's over the years (14) and they have been amazing. Just put the asym 2 on the rs6 and they are fantastic.
Linkman, have you asked your question in the b6 s4 forum? Best to know what people with the same motor say

Ok i know i will get shot down.
I wouldnt waste your money if they have good tread on them, atleast run them for a bit and see what you think.
I have used them in the past i thought they pretty good, they were the 452s or 492s i think

Drive low,park lower
Re: Tyres anyone ?
Ive used the 452's as well and was quite happy with them for road use. Not as good in the wet as some others but hey, you have 4 wheel drive to make up for it lol...

Re: Tyres anyone ?
They do look almost new so I will get the car out for a good blast n see how they are, I would presume the quattro system will do most of the hard work anyway just didnt want to run unsuitable tyres when 2 mins on here could clarify it ( sort of
)
The stickiest rubber I have ever used were Vredensteins believe it or not but they wore out in under 7k, twas fun while it lasted though

Re: Tyres anyone ?
Hi
Since I bought mine, I have always used Goodyear F1 Eagle Asymetric high load. Great grip and long life. Enjoy the car.
