Rs3 or rs4 avant
Rs3 or rs4 avant
Hi guys
I've just signed up tonight's I've been looking for a forum for the rs3.
I currently have an order in place for a Rs3 with one of the dealerships in Scotland and I won't be taking delivery until June this year.
Me and my partner have been talking and she is more inclined for me to get a range sport( new) instead of the rs3.
So I gave her the option of :
1: new range sport and a older rs4 (2006/7 plate) avant
2: new rs3 and older 2.7 sport.
She would be using the jeep more than me.
I was just wondering what ur thoughts are on the rs3 and rs4 avant.
Cheers

Re: Rs3 or rs4 avant
when it comes to my cars I wouldn't take any notice of my OH, I would get what I want as I have to live with it
All I can suggest is that you drive the 3 and the 4 and get the one that you like the most. B7 RS4s have been haemorrhaging money recently (I seam to remember reading that parkers have said there loosing £750 a month atm) so there are some bargains around so you should get a decent one for around 20k. The original biturbo RS4 conversely seams to be holding its price. I suspect its because the biturbo is a very limited run and does not have the £450 tax disc which seams to be very unpopular with the market (it hit my R32 pretty bad).
there's not much in it in weight and performance (50kgs of each other) the 3 is 0.4 quicker to the standing qtr (12.4 v 12.8 so in reality nothing in it) but the 4 has clawed back 0.3 of a second on the 0-124mph, I suspect the 4 will be slightly more driver focused being a manual but for me the 3 is easier to live with in the real world being DSG (and a bloody brilliant one at that) tbh both cars are massively over the top for road cars

as for the sport
I personally wouldn't be seen dead in one, but then SUVs have a very bad image now in the SE
me i would get a 20k RS4 now and a second hand sport (they loose money like crazy anyway) and get the 3 in the summer, but thats me
,
actually I wouldn't get my OH a sport, I would try to get her in an A1 quattro

If, in her mind, the RS3 and a Range Rover Sport are comparable then her opinion on vehicles (I can't say cars as the RR Sport is more like a truck) isn't worth a light.nshort10 wrote:she is more inclined for me to get a range sport( new) instead of the rs3.
Just my opinion...
Gone: 2006 B7 RS4 Avant (Phantom Black)

Have a lot of you that have the rs3 driven a rs4 avant?
What would you say is the difference.
Or do I get the rs3 and rs4 just to be cheeky haha

If money were no object then I suspect an RS3 is the answer if comparing agsinst an RS4 saloon, same cabin size, marginally better straightline performance, similar running / servicing costs and a warranty. But then a decent RS4 is half the price if not less of current used RS3's, in Avant guise has bigger load capacity and is nearer to the end of its depreciation curve than an RS3. For me the RS3 is not £20k+ better than an RS4 Avant and for those who then want to ad in modifications, granted a remapped RS3 will be much quicker than an equivalent remapped RS4 but think of what £20K worth of mods to a B7 RS4 could do (TTS supercharger anyone?)

why by the 4 then why not get a 6 and chip it to 1000bhpP_G wrote:If money were no object then I suspect an RS3 is the answer if comparing agsinst an RS4 saloon, same cabin size, marginally better straightline performance, similar running / servicing costs and a warranty. daft answer, apples, oranges and pears
and the 3 had bloody well better be cheaper to run than the 4 or the 5, ive seen the size of the service bills evo get on the 5
to the OP drive em both and buy the one YOU like the best, or both which is the best answer

Since you have one what is the servicing costs on the RS3? Brake disc / pad replacement?

Re: Rs3 or rs4 avant
haven't checked the servicing cost tbh, but hopefully it wont be £1500 like Evo's RS5!!! the £200 tax disc is niceP_G wrote:Since you have one what is the servicing costs on the RS3? Brake disc / pad replacement?
im hoping i can source the discs myself (seen some for £400) and get my mate to fit them with some pagid pads for about £600

Re: Rs3 or rs4 avant
Evo's RS5 was pricey but the 4 for an oil service is £300 or £150 if you supply your own oil and AVS2 about £500 / 250 (latter supplying plugs and oil) so not that much more expensive. Brakes are about the same size, last set I bought for £160 for fronts, set before £350, pads £200 for fronts and rears.
The mods argument was for those that tend to take that route to justify the argument, I tend to just look at OEM vs OEM . I said the same of the B7 RS4 against the B6/7 S4, it wasn't £15-20k better but used the differential was worth swallowing. For me the RS3 is the same, not worth (when new) £20-30k more for the step change in performance and certainly not practicailty wise compared to a B7 Avant. Not knocking the RS3, just the cold realities of cost of ownership

RS 3 is good VFM and stick by what iv said all along, that I would have ordered one in a heartbeat if i had a different job.... espically since the TTRS is £52k once you spec S-tronic, Nav and 19" Rotar ... all are standard on the RS 3.... and you get 3 extra doors, 2 extra seats
and you dont have to be a gay to drive one

Re: Rs3 or rs4 avant
I know the running costs would be more in the 4 but when I like the comfort of the warranty. Just In case anything goes tits up with it.
I have looked at the rs6 before and seen this one:
http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/3525154.htm
It is a couple grand more than the rs3 I've ordered but the only thing putting me off is the running cost. It would be insane to keep it going, with just services and not including the fuel bill!
This why I like the rs3, will be cheaper to run (a bit) it newer and it's understated when people look at it. Only people who know cars will say "oh that a rs3" and others wil just walk right past it and not even look at it which is the way I like cars.
And that y I like 4 avant it hard to make my mind up

Was in a similar dilemma.. my other half loved the RR Evoque.. was a decent car.. loved the gadgets and gizmos.. BUT just felt boring.. in terms of performance.. and this was the top of the range coupe petrol version.
But when test drove the RS3 the horses just blew me away...
Not tried the RS4.. but should be great I'd imagine...
