Interesting revo/non-revo day
Interesting revo/non-revo day
Hi,
Took my car down to get revo'd today, but they had a problem uploading the code to my s3 after many e-mails/phone calls they decided to check whether the car was running standard as it seemed as thought something had been tinkered with. They took it for a test drive with a boost guage fitted and they saw 1.1 bar peak.Apparently the early s3 is meant to run 0.9 bar.As some of you may know the car is a ex audi press car back in 1999 and featured in a few different articles. The ecu doesn't seem to be have been tampered with. The tuner thought that it felt just as quick as his leon cupra r which is 2wd and has a revo re-map.So i decided to let them rolling road it just to see what it was putting out and whether it had been tweaked by audi. Results were 244bhp@5483rpm and 243lb/t@3362(same from 2750-5500).....seems like audi decided there press car needed a bit of fizz.Anyway it's nice to know i'm driving the fastest "standard" s3.regards Ryan
.s forgot to mention that the car made 1 bar on the dyno/1.1 on the road.

Ryan, what sort of miles has your car done? I've seen early highe (70k) miles cars put out the same sort of figures you're talking about.
Even if it has been tuned before, what was the problem uploading the code? That shouldn't make any difference unless the ECU had been fecked with to the extent that it wasn't able to be overwritten (encryption module???)
What was the upshot?
Perhaps the car has had some mechanical modification (N75, wastegate etc) to up the boost.
Sorry to hear it didn't go to plan, it sucks when that happens. At least you seem to have a good basis to start on, with the mods it should be pretty bloody rapid
Cheers
Ben

hi ben,my car has done 40k miles.Still surprised with the figures i mean stock is 210hp and 199lb/t.so a 34bhp increase and 44lb/t is quite significant. They just couldn't upload the code,it kept "kicking them out" even though they had my ecu listed. Not sure what the problem is but they think it had been "chipped" in some manner so was messing up the upload. Those figures i quoted where at 1 bar(i have the psi reading on my dyno graph)never heard of any chip producing such low boost ,standard it only runs 0.9 so thats only 1.45psi.I've not got the FMIC on yet but hopefully i will before i go down to amd for a rolling road day in may.I wouldn't mind getting hold of vag-com to log my boost/requested boost, just to see what it's up to.Revo's headquaters in Daventry is not that far away ,so i might take it to them after the day at amd.Just goes to show that the old 210's can still do the business over the 225's.regards Ryan

Yep, get up to Revo HQ and get Mitch on the case. He sorted my S3 out when it was originally done and it pinked. Did a load of data logging and got diagnosed with a faulty MAF. They took the MAF out of their S3 and put it in mine and bingo, cured the pinking.
Are you sure standard is 0.9bar? I'm sure some of the earlier chips from people like APR were only 1 bar. Abt chips are only supposed to put out 250BHP (probably conservative).
The last time we were at AmD on a RR session a std car put out about 240 also, it'll be documented in THAT Audi Driver issue and also on as.net.
Did they crack open your ECU the other day? is the seal still in tact?
Cheers chap,
Ben

hi,
ok guys heres the links to the pictures of the dyno graphs and a few of mark(owens tuner)225 leon cupra r/standard , overlays of the two together,hope all this info helps;

The boost is measured in kpa 200=1 bar.
My plots are in blue marks are in red, look forward to hearing your comments.

Sorry about the delay Ryan, been on Honeymoon
Not sure what it put out as standard, but bearing in mind it had a bad MAF it was still quicker than the 190BHP AmD A3 I replaced it for. The torque is where it really happened post chip, much more clout.
Get it on the VAG COM or preferably go to Revo HQ to save yourself time in the long run - they hook up the laptop and sort it all out pretty sharpish.
How's the FMIC?
Cheers

hi ben,
not got the fmic on yet,but i hope to before the end of the month,i've got a rr day at amd so it will be interesting to see what it will do there. My tuner told me there were no error codes in the ecu when he tried to revo it.Thinking about leaving it as is,if it makes 250hp/250lb/t at amd, what will i gain from revo 20lb/t and 10hp?regards Ryan
