B6 Brakes
B6 Brakes
Evening all .....
Today my brake pad warning light came on, can anyone tell me how imininent a change is requried when this light comes on ?
The reason I ask is less than 1.5k miles ago Dean at 4 rings told me they were 50% worn and would need replacing soonish - I didnt however imagine this soon.
Obviously I will be calling Dean soon, but just wondered if anyone can give me a heads up.
thanks
Dan

Re: B6 Brakes
Could be just the sensor wire snapped. The sensor works on a wire system were a complete circuit causes no warning, and when the pad wears the circuit is broken the warning comes on. If the wire into the pad snaps, the same warning will come on.

I dont think it is that as the light first came on yesterday.....I then drove for about half hour this morning before it coming on again so if the circuit was broken then it would be constant I think.Ian_C wrote:Could be just the sensor wire snapped. Unless the wire is snapped but the sheath / plastic coating is alright? Dean or similar would be able to give you an honest answer - take it to Audi and no doubt they'd just replace and charge you for pads regardless!

Ever changed your pads and disc Ian ? Just wondering how much I should expect to pay.
Only really interested in OEM though to be honest ...... dont push the car hard enough to warrant paying more for upgrading.

Re: B6 Brakes
Bought a set of rear discs from euro car parts made by oem manufacturer Pagid for about £100 and a set of pads from Mintex Lucas for about £35. From memory front discs were about 150. Euro car parts would be a start for front pads supply only - be careful as B6 and B7 03-08 calipers are not all the same.

Re: B6 Brakes
Sorry just eeen this post - dont really lurk here anymore after selling my S4 for and RS4.
I had this happen on my S4 - the pads were actually ok but the wire was worn and giving random new pad warnings.
Cant recall how much i paid as had the disc's replaced at same time - do do recall i sourced the disks and pads myself and 4rings fitted - worked out at around £400 all in - think the discs were £250 - 4rings charged about £60 to do the work - so pads around £100
One thing to bear in mind is how warn the discs are - do point putting new pads on if the dics will need replacing soon - it would be a false econmy as you would need to replace the pads again with the new discs.
From not hard driving i used to get around 30,000 - 35,000 k out of my front dics. - at 70,000 the car was on its 3rd set

Re: B6 Brakes
I had the same thing. The pad wire hadn't been routed properly and wore through. I just rerouted it, wrapped the wire in insulating tape and then gaffer tape for a bit more protection and it was fine until they needed replacing.
